|
used to be, sort of. trained my first gsd to pull a cummer dog sled. you know, one of those light weight aluminum ones with wheels. he could pull it with me on it (I weigh 185 pounds, the cart weighed about 25 pounds). the most he ever pulled was 350 pounds for 100 yards. never did it competitively though.

no, but I've seen the competitions though. It looks interesting, my Mack would probably be good at it though.

I actually have my Alaskan Malamute in training for weight pulling and plan on competing with him. He is also a sled dog in training.

My hubby weight trains alot of his dogs......Some of the adult dogs (1 1/2 Years Old) can pull around 360 pounds right now. It is amazing......He normally starts them gradual when they are around 10-12 months old. Right now our 13 month old APBT is pulling almost 200 pounds! I am totally amazed at the strength...I can't even pull that much! LOL
He is working now to up the weight and getting some of these dogs into some competitions...

Shiva's got real potential. By the time she was nine months old or so she was able to scoot the big round bales of hay (well over 700 pounds) when she thought there was vermin underneath. Of course, if you convinced her there was food involved, I think she could pull the earth off its axis, lol!

Yeah, I was hoping to get Mack to pull the kid's sled in the winter, I thought it'd be fun for him (seeing as he just LOVES pulling me down the street).

are you pulling with a sled? I do cart and sled with my american bulldogs...and they pull the neighborhood kids around on sleds in the winter. Its tons of fun. Here is a link to old training pics with Clare. http://www.bordeauxbulldogs.com/clarepull.htm
