Well Levi has now gotten to where he can walk off leash. When he goes outside he doesn't go on leash, because he stays right with you. He does his business and comes straight back to you, its amazing. He can sit, stay, come, and down. I'm trying to get him to shake my hand and roll over, but I don't really know how to teach him, so if someone will help me or let me know any books that can help. Thanks

Congrats to you and Levi. To teach shake, I usually gently take one of their paws, shake it and say "shake" as I'm doing the motion. Usually my dogs catch on after a few times.

I'm teachong my dog roll over at the moment. First, get your dog in a down position. Then, holding a treat in one of your hands, slowly roll it in the direction you want him to roll. He should she roll over to get the treat. While doing so, say the command, 'Roll over' Keep practising. Eventually Levi will get it. Hope this helps

Levi's an ACD right? No wonder he's learnt so much, they are such smart dogs.

A-w-w-w...Levi sounds like a loyal little friend. You are doing stupendously with him. I forget how old he is and just wanted to caution you. If you're taking him outside and there's no fence, there will most likely come a time when he's a tad older where he will all of a sudden get adventurous and decide he's brave enough to run off from your side and not mind you. They go through these stages. First they're stuck like glue to you because they're still a little insecure and the next moment, they're running off. So, if you're in an area where he could run out in the road or something, it's risky to walk around with no leash.
Anyhow, good luck. He sounds wonderful! |

Gracie was doing great off leash.....last time we tried it in the field she was a stinkpot and decided to explore. So no more off leash for her. Not taking the chance.
