We just got a new yellow lab girl yesterday and she's sweet as can be. She has an all pink nose (a little brown at the bottom, near her lips) and she doesn't have any black around her eyes our mouth. Does this make her a Dudley then? I'm just curius!
Thanks in advance! ![]() ![]()

The Dudleys I've seen have more pronounced pink around the eyes ....the nose could be a snow nose .....cute whatever !

Looks like you have a very light yellow Lab with a snow nose, meaning it will darked back up when the weather gets warmer. What makes me say that is her eyes are dark, and so are her eye rims. Dudleys have terracota colored noses, eye rims and lips, and gold eyes.
eta pictures: Mick was a dudley. It's hard to see in the picture, but his eyes were gold. Mick's lips were the same color as his nose and eye rims/lids. Caleb is yellow with a snow nose. He's even lost some pigment at the corner of his eyes this winter. He has dark brown eyes, and black lips. edited again to add- really good, dark pigment is hard to get in yellow Labs. Sometimes it takes awhile for it to darken up, too. Caleb still had a little pink spot in the corner of his one eye when we picked him out. Your new girl is a cutie. How old is she?

Nope, she's not a Dudley. She just has a snow nose and a lot of pink pigment outside her eyerims. See how the rims around her eyes are black? I call it "eyeliner." You can also tell by the black/brown pigment at the edges of her nose and the black pigment on her lips.
Here is a good example of a Dudley (he or she is red, which sets it off a bit more): (Open both of these in tabs if you can, the actual images are too huge to post!) And a chocolate, so you can see a comparison: See how they both have that pink pigment all over the skin that is showing? It can be paler pink or even a dark brown, but it's never black pigment. A Dudley lab is simply a Chocolate with two copies of the 'yellow' gene (e) that restricts dark pigment (melanin) in the coat. Here is a link explaining: http://www.woodhavenlabs.com/yellow-pigment.html

I see now - thanks so much for all that interesting info on dudleys - so cool! Looks like she may just be a fair yellow with lighter skin but not a true dudley. I just adore labs and she's going to be a great addition to our home. We already have a chocolate (6 yrs.)
Emily is just 3 months old...and so big already! |

WOW only 3 months? She's huge!
I think it's interesting that at such a young age she already is losing pigmentation in her nose.. not a bad thing, though, and it certainly makes her even more adorable!

She's cute! I've got a Lab as well, though she's black. She'll be my only Lab
