My mom just called and I just couldn't tell her I got another dog. I just don't want to hear all her comments again (already got some from the dog classes trainer and the vet, lol), especially after how he treated us last night, lol. I have no idea how I am ever going to bring myself to do it... Especially when she makes comments like 'you're the one who wanted him' when I tell her all the silly things Boris has been doing this week (which I think are actually pretty funny). I guess I have 10 months to do it before she comes visit...

I'm the same way. I haven't told my parents about our puppy yet. We've had her for awhile and I haven't said anything about her. I feel bad too, I want to brag about my new puppy because she's SO smart. None of my family are dog lovers (or animal lovers for that fact) so I have to sort of keep everything to myself.

Yes exactly. It doesn't help that when she came to visit last time she was criticizing everything Boris was doing. But it's annoying because I really love talking about my pets.
Well at least I'm not alone. |

Oh that's sad!
My mum and dad are very supportive and love Gus just as much as I do! It's great because we tell each other what silly things the dogs have done and if one is poorly we're straight on the phone to each other!! I'm very lucky in that respect!

Gus.. I had the same support with my goldens....however, my saddest Christmas was when Tom announced with an old cutter sled that I could get a horse. Something I always wanted. My Mom's only comment was that she had hoped to raise a daughter that wanted to do do something other than shovel sh*t .......I loved her deeply and don't know if she ever knew how much this hurt me.

Who knows. My parents say comments about the dogs that they know about that hurt me. They accuse me of not thinking about my daughter when I got the dogs. I did think about her, I want her to grow up around animals and get to have what I missed out on. I never had an animal that was my own growing up. Everytime that I got used to an animal they were always giving it away. I wanted her to have animals in her life from the beginning and I wanted those animals to stay with us and not be given away.

I really think you should tell them that, Julie. That was masterfully eloquent. You are giving your daughter the gift of many lessons.

I agree, maybe they would understand. But yes lots of people who don't love dogs can't understand why others want their children to grow up around dogs either.
