Default All My Dumb Newbie Questions

Okay, our first fun run is Sunday, if the weather is not bad. => We have at least three opportunities to go to a fun run before our first official trial in late April, so I'm going to have a LOT of dumb newbie questions... so I will post them here in one thread.

I don't have a "jump height card." Do I need one...? How do I get one? Auggie is 3.5, 3.75 on a good day (ROFL) but he's definitely not 14. Are they going to want to measure him, or does it not really matter because it's just a fun run? Will I eventually need to get one for our real trial, or will they measure him there?
We run in AKC, if that helps any.

3.75 is your yps? 14? is that yps (yards per second), I have never heard of a dog running at 14 yps, not even a world level, most dogs have yps of a min of 6 at that level and I think the highest is 8.5. (if that is what you meant lol)
You shouldn't need a height card for a fun match, but it is wise to practice getting measured at the fun match.
I don't compete in AKC but it should tell you in their rules what the policys and procedures are for height cards or your instructor should know or be able to find out at the very least.
For AAC (agility assoc. of Canada), you have to send away for your height card before your first trial, then at the first two trials that you attend the Judge measures your dog, we have to have two different Judges measure but not on the same day. Once you have two offical measurments they sign off on the card and the trial sends in the info, making the card official. If you obtain any Q's before your height card becomes official, those Q's still count and are added to your dogs record. If you are entered into a trial and you you don't have your card, you can't be measured and although they may allow you to compete with a measurement the run is classed as a FEO (for exhibition only) and any Q's don't count to wards titles or on the dogs record. This is how it works for us, but check AKC, it could be very different with them.

Hope that helps
Lynn

Err... no, ROFL. I'm sorry. He's THIRTEEN.5... inches. Tall. I don't know how I managed to type 3 instead of 13 twice. But no, I have no idea what his YPS is as I really don't care about speed right now. But he is 13.5 tall, 13.75 on a tall day.

I am dying with laughter at how much of a nerd I am, managing to miss the "1" twice... OMG. XD
