Can you please share some with me?
My first goal is CD title but I saw a tv program about rally o and it looked fun. I would really like to try it with my older girl {6 month old Krosha} but I would like to hear other peoples experiences first. I am a slow mover as I am all new to BRTs and the idea of titling a dog. Our family dogs were always pets who did nothing but love us and we loved them back. I am very excited to embark on this adventure! |

I have a novice title on my girl, and one leg on our advanced so far. I never have enjoyed obedience, but have found rally fun. I do stress at reading and comprehending the signs though. What would you like to know about it?

Are the people who compete in it fun? Is there a prerequisite to starting to train or compete? My mind is running crazy with all the things I want to try but I have to be reasonable with the dog and see where she wants to go too. I would love to give agility a try too. I guess I best start with my CD and see what Krosha and I can do from there before getting all these plans in motion and overwhelming both of us. |

Where do you live us vs canada, and which organization do you want to do? There's CARO and CKC in Canada.. we do CARO. There's APDT and AKC stateside with a little APDT out west in Canada too.
Depends which you choose as to ages I think. CARO is 6 months to compete. Depends upon where you live really. I've heard yay's and nays from people in venues of almost all sports.. I'm young, I have lip piercings, and occasionally have funky coloured hair. We took 1st and 3rd our first trial. I overheard someone in the parking lot referring to me as a freak and how I shouldn't have won.. It was 10pm in the dark.. I couldn't see who. Since then, everyone has been super nice to me and I have no complaints.. supportive generally. No prereq. Lot of things are basic commands. Like putting together a sit with a down.. or a sit with a stand. AKC CARO and APDT all have their signs online so you can print them and practice. The ones I have also tell you what each sign should look like when you do it. I understand where you are coming from. I want to dabble in everything now, and am having a hard time choosing what.

I guess they would rather compete against someone who 'looks' a certain part, but could a criminal? Not like there isn't a few of those in the dog world. Amazes me how stupid and ignorant some people can be, it was probably just sour grapes because they didn't win. Lynn |

How nasty some people can be!
![]() I live in eastern Ontario {near Cornwall} and right now am training with my breeders trainer in Kingston. I was thinking of joining a club in Ottawa! I am suppose to attend a show in March if we are ready for conformation; to get a critque from a professional non bias judge. Then to the obedience ring. I can decide what route to take once we get our CD! Rally O looks like fun and I just might get out there and try it. To do anything I need a good foundation of obedience so it will at least get me that. Last edited by BRTLover; 01-04-2008 at 08:28 AM. |

BRT,
I was in Kingston today at the Morning Star Agility Trial at the Dome. Who do you train with, I know several folks from there especially Dawn. Lynn |

I train with Kingston K9 Center; they are located on Princess Street! There are only two trainers there Bill and Debbie {a husband and wife team}! They are very experienced with the BRT breed which is why my breeder choose them! It is very difficult to find a trainer with experience with this breed! I cannot do agility yet because my oldest is 6 months old and until they are at least a year they are not suppose to jump due to hip issues. But perhaps next year we might meet there for training or trialing!

BRT,
We don't jump puppies when training agility, or put them on contact equipment or weaves. As pups they are taught flat handling skills, focus etc. Do your trainers compete in agility or rally? Lynn |

They do rally o! They do not do agility so I would have to go somewhere else for that; likely somewhere in Ottawa as it is much closer for me to drive! My breeder wants a CD title on all her puppies so I am going for that first and then when that is accomplished I will have to see what puppy wants to do and what I want to do from there. Perhaps we will meet someday that would be fun! |
