Default Ugh!!

Even more animal shelter drama. We recently picked up a purebred border collie puppy. We held him for 5 days, no one claimed him, so the shelter fixed him and put him up for adoption. Well, his owner finally came in, saying he had checked all his local shelters and thought he would give this one a go. He found his dog in the adoption room and wanted him back. We told him he could pay a small reclaim fee and have him. The guy asked why he had to pay, so we told him because we had givin him all his shots and neutered him. When the owner found out we neutered him, he told us we could keep his dog!

Turned out he wanted to do some professional AKC events and even do some conformation showing, and now that his border collie was fixed, he couldn't do those things. He refused to give us the name of the breeder. We did eventually adopt the dog out, but still...I know he must have been dissapointed, but that's no reason not to take him back! I can't believe he didn't care that his "beloved" pet could have been put to sleep if he hadn't have been adopted!

well Vivi a Westminster attending Whippet has been missing what years now, thanks to the idiocy of airline staff...stuff happens...dogs get loose...bad luck can happen to anyone

The guy should have sprung the poor pup and found a home or kept it...a real tool, that guy.

The thing about friendly dogs, a lot of people find them on the streets, and keep them..and don't even attempt to look for their owners. So no one ever gets any form of closing.

What a jackass.

I'm sorry... but I have to say... less Barbie Collies in the world = AWESOME! I hope the puppy found a good home, that deserves him, and I'm glad that moron didn't get the chance to breed him. He obviously didn't love his dog, if the dog is worthless without testicles.

if i were a breeder, every puppy of mine would go out the door microchipped with my contact info. that problem right there would have been solved.

i have heard and read many many stories like this one.

^^ Ditto.

Though the fact that the guy just left the dog at the shelter instead of returning it to the breeder to rehome says a lot about the breeder, too. IMO, most responsible breeders feel responsibility for the dogs they produce, and don't ever want their puppies in a shelter and ask that they get the option of first refusal if the dog is going to be rehomed. My dog's breeder would be beside herself if I ever left my dog at a shelter... If I ever can't keep her, she is to go directly back to her breeder.

He might have wanted to keep the dog's fate secret from the breeder if he intended on replacing it with another show prospect. A good breeder would never sell a "replacement" puppy to someone who put one of their dogs in that situation.

I just have trouble accepting that someone wouldn't want their dog just because he couldn't compete. A dog is apart of your family, no matter what he is able to do =(. And I agree that the breeder must not have been the most responsible, even if she did breed quality dogs. He didn't have a microchip or tattoo or anything!
