I'm going to adopt a maltese puppy that I dream about for so long.
I found a breeder in my region that has a puppy . I watched him grow when he was just 1 week old! The parents of the puppy are both about 4 pounds. But I find that the puppy is growing too fast. Breeder said that it will be 4.5 pounds adult. But now he's 2 pounds already at age of 7 weeks! What do you think it will be full grown? I'm affraid the puppy will grow too big and may reach 6-7 pounds! For me its small size is very important so I can easily travel with my dog and take it in my bag everywhere I go. I live in a small appartement and want to paper train my puppy so he will not need to go outside when it's -40C! Otherwise the puppy seems to be sweet and healthy and I'm happy about it! Please give me some comments about how much the puppy could weight when it reaches adulthood? Thank you! |

I've heard you take what they weigh at like 12 weeks and triple it. Our Cocoa weighed less than 2 lbs. at 12 weeks and currently weighs 5lbs. I honestly don't believe she will reach 6lbs which would be triple.
Also, even if your puppy gets to 6 or 7 lbs it will still be easy enough to carry around, I have 2 other yorkies that weigh 6 1/2 lbs and we can carry them around easy and they all 3 are paper trained. |

I found a website concerning maltese puppy development.http://www.bhejei.com/dev_master.htm
It's exactly like my puppy (7weeks- 2lbs). It seems that growth is slowing down after. |

Oh yea TOki is 6.5 lb you will eventually get used to holding them. But I really don't think your puppy will grow. I used that weight calculate before on the other puppies and it was slightly off. I think your puppy is just eating alot but when it gets to a certain age it will stop eating and weight similiar to what their parents are at.

It's possible that your puppy might reach 7 lb depending on both of the parents. Maybe the grandparents were big and both parents were just the runt. I really doubt it will be that big. I've seen puppies that just grew really fast but just stopped. There was one puppy that was 6 weeks old and weighted 1.10 oz so I estimated that it was going to be 6-7 lb and when the customer called my bf back and turned out she was full grown at 4.5 lb. Don't worry about weight, even if your puppy gets at 7 lb you won't regret getting your pup. Same thing happened to me.

I don't know anymore what I should do...It's not because of weight. I'm not sure I can trust the breeder anymore. I think she's a back yard breeder even if she takes care very well of her dogs and the puppy lives in the best possible conditions. It's highly possible that the parents of the puppy are the runt of the litter. And I don't like that idea either.
I already bought everything I need for the puppy and paid a deposit . But I have a bad feeling about it. I shall decide now if I'm going to take the puppy or not. It's a big responsability and there will be no turn back.. |

That's good that you are thinking it through Mollie. If you are going to buy from a breeder you do want a responsible one. Your chances of getting a healthy puppy is much higher that way. What can you tell us about the breeder? What kind of health tests did the parents have? Did they ask you a lot of questions? Do they take responsibilty for their pups after adoption? ...

Some breeders will lie to you about the age of the puppies. They will tellyou they are 12 weeks at 2 lb so that you will think they will be small but in reality they are only 7 weeks old. You never know what kind of puppy you will get from a back yard breeder. Some just in it for the money and you'll just end up paying alot of money later on because of health issues.
