Ive never thought of trying it with Walker till now with Grammys bringing it up. How do you get it done? How much does it cost? What do they do?

I'm not sure why you want DNA testing, but I have done it with my Bailey. Collies can have a genetic defect that causes sensitivity to about 30 different drugs. If they get any of them, it could kill them. I did lose a collie to this problem many years ago. So I did the test, just a cheek swab, sent it in and got the results in about a week. My dog is what they call mutant/mutant for the MDR1 gene. This means he could die if he gets one of the drugs, so I'm very glad I had the test. Is this the kind of thing you were talking about?

I haven't check to see if my vet does it ......on line I think it's about $65. I've been thinking of this and if I did it I would choose one that didn't ask for a picture . I know Ollie is mostly Golden . He was in Petfinmder as golden/poodle . I'm thinking Chessie , but many say other breeds .

A friend of mine actually sent in one of the on-line ones for her dog. I'm waiting to see what sort of results come back. If it the answers seem likely, I may get it for a friend for Christmas - I think she'd get a kick out of it.
Here's the dog whose DNA was sent in (the not-Meg one). What are your guesses?

Its a rip off really. The only place I think it has a place is if your dog is of unknown partentage but looks to be of breeds that have genetic issues (then you can screen for those issues)
I read the symposium booklet MARS (the company that does the best one) and it really didn't answer my questions (I am in school for Forensic Biotechnology, and plan to write my papers as a clinical genetisist..so DNA testing is something I know a bit about) Basically if you have a spare 100 and just want to do it for kicks, it could be fun. But don't take the results to seriously. If you want more detail, I can go into it, but really should be studying for my DNA mid term tomorow
