Default Niobi is a no

Hi everyone, just got back from the Humane Society, without Niobi. When we first we got there, the adoption councelor made a face when we said we were there to meet Niobi. She had taken her home one night and she had shown signs of being highly aggressive towards her other dog. AND she hates cats. We met her and she was adorable and sweet but when she was introduced to Bear - she lunged at him quite ferociously. Even if eventually they would have hammered out a cautious relationship, we just didn't feel like it was fair to Bear to bring home someone like her and plus my cats, who are 14 and 16 - I could not endanger them. So it was dissapointing, but we will continune our search. As the adoption councelor put it: we don't want Bear's last years to be uncomfortable. BTW, now they are changing Niobi's bio to read: should go to home with no other pets. Well, thanks for listening!

Oh how dissapointing! She obviously just wasn't meant for you! I'm sure you will find a perfect match for all of you soon!

Yeah Smkie, I wish they'd have known beforehand but I must say I was very proud of Bear. He handled himself so well, he was polite to everyone: people and other dogs. Thats what I want - another Bear!

Irish, when i got Victor..i wanted another bronki..no one knows how badly i needed another bronki. .Victor is not bronki and never will be. I knew that it was unfair to expect him to be..and now a year later..i adore Victor as Victor and appriciate him more every day for his intelligence...and his compassion, different from the calm strength that Bronki had..i knew when i saw Victor's pic on petfinder.com, i don't know why but i knew he was to be the one even before i met him in person. For the first two months i questioned my sanity in that. He was truly a spastic hyperactive..easily excited desperate for attention puppy. The right one will be there for you..but i think you will find that Bronki's and Bears are one and onlys....and so are Victors

You're so right, Smkie! They are one of a kind. Even Kharma, who has so many of Buffy's characteristics, is a one of a kind, with her own little quirkiness and sense of self.

I know you will find the right dog one day. It's true how they all have their own unique personalities. As hubby would say, you could never find another CJ. She has such a unique personality that can change in a split second; I think that's what we love about her so much. When my Brandy went to Doggie Heaven, I saw so many lab mixes at the shelter but knew in my heart that I couldn't adopt one because I would expect it to be another Brandy so as I was leaving, I saw a little puppy in a cage that stole my heart; when I picked her up, she put her front paws around my neck like saying "please take me, don't leave me" and that puppy today is CJ.

Barb, that reminds me of how I met my Bear. I was looking for another German Shepherd and someone from the local shelter heard me talking about it, introduced herself and told me about the German Shepherd they had there who was running out of time - actually he was a couple of weeks overdue to be put down, but he was such a great dog that they kept passing him over.

I went to the Shelter that Monday morning and saw a HUGE, chubby, hairy dog with a sort of German Shepherd face and a tail curled tightly over his back. He was NOT the German Shepherd I had envisioned. They let him out of the kennel and he bounded over to me, not looking at anyone else, stopped in front of me, and stood up on his hind legs with his paws on my shoulders and looked me in the eye.

That did it.

I told them I'd pick him up at five o'clock since I couldn't keep him at work all day. I gave him one more hug and a scratch behind the ears and started to leave as they were putting Bear back in his kennel. He wouldn't go! Everyone was shocked because out of all the times someone had met him he'd always been content to go back to his kennel afterward. I had to go back and tell him I'd be coming for him later; he went into his kennel then.

It was pretty obvious we were meant for each other.
