Bear doesn't bark except when someone/something comes in the yard. Other than that you don't even know he's here. Dixie on the other hand will bark and bark. She barks when she has to go out, when it's time to eat, when she wants you to pet her, when someone knocks at the door, if there's a bug on the window. She's a noisemaker.

Leo is a chihuahua / shih-tzu mix. Believe it or not, he never makes a sound. He's pretty much totally silent. An occasional snort when playing rough with his toys, but that's about it. A bark from him startles everyone, because it's only happened 2 or 3 times since we got him.

Yes, they do. Though it varies with each of them.
Kassie isn't a barker. In fact, when she was the only dog in the household, she barely barked. That is until Boomer arrived and thought her how too. Boomer is a barker. I don't give him a chance to bark too much when he's outside if I did I think he'd drive all the neighbors crazy. Tilly usually only barks when company arrives and that's out of nervousness. She'll bark outside once in a blue moon but will stop as soon as I tell her too.

I am not a real fan of barky dogs either. I trained charlie from a puppy
so he knows the "quiet" command and usually listens to it. He only barks when we are outside sometimes and even then calms down completely when I tell him to. Shih tzu though do have a tendency to talk through their "nose". Its like a sneezing sniff that is hard to describe!

Milo's a barker. and a screamer. and a whiner. and a groaner. (he's a JRT.) he's not really LOUD though. it doesn't bother me at all.
My mom's wheaten is a barker. And it's piercing. Right through your ears into your brain making your head ring. and he does it FOR NO REASON. He's just lie on the floor and BARK. so annoying.

Wally is silent. He's a Greyhound.
Teeny barks to let me know someone is at the door, to let me know that someone upstairs has dropped something, to let me know that the rabbit in the next room moved in her cage, to let me know that she's pissed off about something, to let me know that she's happy about something . . . I truly DESPISE a barking dog, and frankly didn't think that's what I'd be getting when I got an Alapaha since the ones I've known haven't been overly barky. Granted, she's nowhere near as barky as my friends Shelties and Corgis, but still I think it's excessive. The citronella bark collar comes in next week . . .

I've only ever heard Bandit bark when a person comes up the driveway and he's outside peeing. He never does it any other time.
Spanky will yapp at horses, bunnies, cats ect. Any random animal really. But overall he doesn't use his voice in the house. They're both Border Collies. |
