what type of school do i need?

i would like to become a dog groomer. i don't know where to start. what is it called? is there a specific school for it? on in-store-training?

A friend of mine works for Petsmart. I know they will train new groomers at one of their locations for a month to become certified. I'm not sure if there are private schools. I tried look for just a local school in NY for grooming, but it seems like they're all in NYC. Getting a job at Petsmart might be a good idea since then you wouldn't have to pay to learn and you would get the experience working there.

The best way to start out is to work as a bath blow dryer for a reputable dog groomer. Then go to a reputable grooming school. Once you finished school go to work with a reputable dog groomer as your mentor. You will never learn all you need to learn in school.

I have a grooming school about 45 mins. away from me. I'm looking into going. I already had the booklet, but I lost it. I think its a couple thousand dollars to join though. Thats not including the other things you need to buy.

I tried to get a job for the petsmart grooming department and they TOTALLY shot me down! I was so MAD but oh well I got an ok job and I'm still working with animals. Yeah I would try to get in working entry level at somewhere and just work your way up.

Over here in the UK they have qualfications for Dog Grooming and there are many college's and grooming parlours that offer courses (all most all are hands-on experience) i had thought about doing dog grooming but i have a had a taste of it and it's ok but not my thing, they teach us how to groom (the basics) at my college whilst doing my Animal Management course as part of working with cats and dogs module which was fun .

If it's what you want to do then you should look up dog grooming businesses that are local too you and ask if you could go there to view first-hand and possibly get some answers on how to become a dog groomer, ther alternative is reasearching online for information but you'd more than likely need to find somewhere to gain experience

My trainer offers a class that takes a couple months and you get some certificate and job placement help. It works because they get to practice on all the dogs in training i guess

My Aunt went to a grooming shop and learned. Now she has her own shop out of her home.

lol, sorry but I was laughing so hard when I read that. That sucks big time. But I am glad you got a job working with animals still
