I just dremmeled the dogs and it reminded me of a question that I have been wanting to ask.
It's nothing major, just weird to me. Ok, Orson's front nails get WAY longer than his back nails for whatever reason, and Phoebe is the opposite, her back nails get longer than her front. I would think that with his digging in his sand and just general walking etc it should be like Phoebe. Is this the norm of what you see in other dogs? Does it just vary? Or is Orson just a weirdo? (I should say MORE of a weirdo than he usually is, he is now prancing about with his new nail job )

i have seen it vary, although both my mals grow more nail on the front feet than the back.
i would expect it to do with the way they walk. where they put weight, if they drag any of their feet.

Cider and Smudge's back nails stay short enough they don't need much work. The front ones are killers.

Well maybe Phoebe is the weird one then, hehehehehehe, I just assumed that since he digs with the front that it should file them down (which it does to a certain degree) leaving the back ones longer.

it actually has to do with the way they walk. i will say that after grooming for about a year and a half, most large breed dogs have longer front nails and shorter back nails. orson mosr than likely puts more weight in his back end than his front end when he walks, and phoebe may walk with more wieght on her front end. it also has to do with where the nail is on the paw. orsons back nails may grow more into the ground than his front

hey I replied to this a few days ago but it's not here. Pretty much I said what duncan said but I don't find it a weight issue I find they just tend to drag, scuff their back nails as they walk. (I also groom profesionally). Most dogs back nails are the short ones.

Rumor's front nails are the longer ones. Her back nails will stay at a decent length for a couple weeks, while the front will get ridiculously long within a week.
