Default Need Advice

When I bathe Spy, for the next several days his coat will be very dandruffy. It's pretty gross. Like, speckles of dandruff EVERYWHERE .

Does it mean the shampoo I am using is to strong and that I need a gentler one? The bottle says safe for puppies and kittens if that means anything...

Help? LOL

I'd say that he's either not reacting well to the shampoo you're using (the most probable), or it's not being rinsed out quite enough. Do you use conditioner too? If not, that could also be the problem.

Dance is very particular about shampoos and conditioners. She can't use most that I've tried on her - she gets lots of dandruff like Spy or is very itchy. Bio-groom is the only one she can use without reacting that way for some reason. I found that kind of strange, considering it does just the opposite to any other dog I've tried it on and the ones that are supposed to be gentle are the ones she reacts to (like Earthbath).

Nala had the same problem when she was younger. We use Earthbath Oatmeal and Aloe and we haven't had any problems. She also gets olive oil, ground flax, or fish oil at each meal.

Oh okay. So I should just experiment around with Earth Bath and Bio-Groom? And get conditioner? LOL, I am SOO clueless with grooming .

What brand are you currently using? You should be good with most high quality brands. Lol, Dance is just weird. I'm sure it'll be easy to find something Spy's skin will agree with. And like Herschel said, you could always add extra oils to his diet to try and help.

How often does he get bathed?

I agree with the need to SUPER rinse.

When I use conditioner on Milo's coat, it picks up dirt faster. He does better with a mild, organic shampoo that I rinse squeaky clean.

We have Bio-Groom Natural Scents Country Freessia Shampoo . Didn't realize we had bio groom! LOL

He doesn't get bathed often. I've only bathed him like, twice.

We sometimes give him salmon oil, or throw in a raw egg with his dinner.

Is he itchy? If not, it sounds to me like the shampoo is not being rinsed well enough. Most dogs hate the rinsing stage, so it can get a little skimped.

I dunno. Just a thought.

You definatley need to rinse throughly, and not bathe to often. I found that conidtioner did wonders for Sarama though. Not only is her coat even nicer and she still smells like vanilla, but she didn't have the itchies at all after her bath. You probably need to experiment a bit though. It often takes people awhile to find the right shampoo and conditioner for them, and by and large, we only have hair on our heads!

He doesn't seem any itchier then normal, which is not itchy at all. LOL

I'm pretty sure I get it all out...? I make sure that I do a good rinse every time. I am positive it's not excess.

I guess he just has really sensitive skin?
