he may just be extremely allergic to fleas. Has he had fleas before this time? Our kitten has extreme flea allergies and has fleas. He has scratched his neck so much (apparently the most bothersome spot) that the whole side of his neck is an open sore.

He has to wear a cone but the cone rests on the open scab. I would have your pup taken to the vet to get checked. Maybe it's not the fleas that are causing him to lose his fur but maybe he has allergies to one of the medications used.

Just use the advantix, and it should all be good. Fleas are a PITA.

He could be losing fur from a combination of everything. Itchyness from the fleas, irritation from them biting him, dryness from baths, etc. Carlie's hair was falling out like crazy on the top of her back for a few days because her skin is dried out/ irritated from a small tick infestation we had and me putting Advantix on her almost 2 days in a row because it got washed off in a bath. I got some shampoo and a spray from my vet that has a medicine, oatmeal, and aloe in it. It also doesn't strip off any flea/tick medicine. They seem to be helping alot. So, I'd suggest calling your vet and seeing what they have.

Flea allergy dermatitis will cause hair loss, especially on the back above the base of the tail. Advantage or Advantix should do the trick, but give him about 6 weeks to start looking better. Make sure he's on a high quality food as well and you may want to supplement with fish body oil - both will help coat condition and allergic skin.

He's on good quality food recommended by the lovely people here. I have an interview for a new job but ima stop by petsmart today and see if they have advantix to finish off what's left of the fleas, and to see if they have any lotion type thing for his skin iritation. I just got paid so now a vet visit is feasible if need be.
