If you do believe it's a contact allergy, I would suggest trying Benadryl and see if it brings her some relief.
I would also add some salmon oil and vitamin E to her diet.

I hope she is feeling better AC......I know that my two don't particularly like seeing a new vet either, and if it wasn't an emergency I would wait for my regular to be back in the office.
