Default Does anyone do their own vaccinations??

If so, where do you get them and what brand do you go for?

just keep in mind that doing your own vaccinations is fine, but a yearly checkup by a veterinarian is still extremely important to your pup's well-being, even if the dog is healthy.

also keep in mind that all vaccines are not created equal.

I vet my dogs yearly, as they need their Rabies shots as required by law. Also to get their heartworm checks. I just feel it is a little ridiculous to pay $25.00 for a vaccination that I could do myself (worked for a vet clinic for two years and helped with vaccs then). I was just wondering where people bought THEIR vaccs and what brands are "reputable".

I have never done it myself, but my uncle always did his hunting dogs. I remember watching and helping..........

Sorry, that was absolutely no help what so ever

I remembered seeing Vaccines in my Foster & Smith magazine.............

I believe they have a fairly reputable name, but like I said above, I have never used them.

I'm sure many are safe .... but over the years I have heard that some are out of date or not refrigerated properly . I just don't take chances with ordering myself ....even though I've given shots to both dogs and horses , but with my vets vaccines .

do you have a tractor supply company near you? I did all the kittens shots (besides rabies) myself and that is where I got them from. I paid like $10 for the 5 in 1 kitten shot (per shot and they needed to get 2). I don't do the dogs shots, I let the vet do those, but we just brought the kitten a long and did the shots right there in the car so they were still cold (they need to be kept cold). Bring a cooler or something with some ice to keep the vaccines cold for the drive home.

merial and phizer and the two brands i would want to use.

$25 every three years for a vaccine doesn't really seem like that much money to me, but *shrug*

who cares if 25.00 a yr or three isnt that much to you. I think its great to vaccinate your own pet if the vacc is good, I could do it if I knew what type of vaccine to buy, whats the big deal.
