Default sensing bad people

Well I took gracie for a small walk today. My dad has a building only a couple of blocks from here and he and mom put in a big garden in the lot. I seen they was working in the garden so we walked over to visit. Well everything was just fine, when all at once Gracie got so scared acting. She was trying to back away into the garden, was tugging at the leash. I heard the dogs next door barking so I just thought it was the dogs she was freaked out about. I picked her up and she was soaked, she had even wet on herself! I turned back to my parents to tell them I better take her home when I seen HIM standing there next to my mom and my poor parents had this look of dread on their faces.

This neighbor guy breeds Beagles. Keeps them in small cages and he's mean to them at times. He's a real creepy guy. I quickly said my goodbyes and got Gracie out of there. She nearly ran all the way home. I know she didnt freak out because it was someone walking up to us, I really think she sensed what kind of person he is. We are still working on her social skills, getting her adjusted to different people but she's never acted like that when people walk towards us and has never peed on herself.
I didnt even let him get near her. Felt so bad for the poor little thing.

Oh, they know, they know . . . You should see Bimmer when the guy who poisoned Buffy is around. There are very few people he allows close enough to touch him, and I know when he does it is someone who can be trusted.

Aaaw, poor Gracie. I do believe dogs can sense things about people...Colby, my terrier mix, is generally pretty good with people, but there are certain people she just does NOT like.

Gotta tell you one about one dog..without letting you know just how insane my life was at that time..hmm..ok my ex worked in this seriously dangerous store..open 24 hrs and nothing but bad news. Where ex went..i had to go so i was there..like a daisy in poison ivy. They had a dog so that is where i put my attentions. His name was Bear and he was a white german shepard. There was a swinging door..waist high to the area with the registar. The swinging door opened flush with the front door. I sat on the floor cause i didn't even want to be seen in this place and read a book with the dog..so i can attest that this is 100 percent actually factual. Bear would rise up out of a sound sleep and shoot out that door and stop someone before they even got a foot in. Bear knew..and if Bear said you can't come in..you cant' come in. Sign says so on the door. It happened frequently. Now when Bear died..the clerk but several bullets into one man and the man got him and knifed him anyway..they could not find..another BEAR.
So it is my experience..that oh yeah do they know.

Dogs are excellent judges of character, a GSD we used to have was extremely selective in how he treated people, with some he'd be relaxed up on first meeting them, and with others he'd get anxious and would make sure to position himself between the stranger and me.

One famous propaganda video of Hitler's shows him reaching out to pet a German Shepherd, and the dog immediately shies away from him. That's a shining example of how a dog's instinct can usually be trusted.

There used to be a guy who came down to our area to watch trains (yes we will drive for hours sometimes to do it, and it's way more popular than most people could possibly believe) where we do, and he was an odd dude. His name was Kurt. My old Pit mix hated him, and was about the only person I actually think he wanted to take out. When he died, I got my two present dogs and Kurt wasn't around for months and had no idea Gus had died, and had never met my dogs, who nearly instantly got very angry, and tried to get out the car window to go after him. Molly's hair was up big time and King was bouncing off the seats and doors, really PO'ed. We finally went home, and Kurt was still there. A little while later, another regular at the spot comes with his two boxers, and they hadn't seen Kurt before. They wanted a piece of him right away, and Kurt was very upset, whining, "Why do all these dogs hate me so much?"

We rented a room out to a girl about 30 years ago. She went out on a date with a lounge lizard type and she brings him back to the house. My Beagle, Farfel was asleep on the couch and the "lizard" laughs because he had his head on the pillow, and was stretched out and wasn't gonna move. This guy's name was Monte, he wore gold chains and had his black hair slicked back. He looked like he belonged in a gangster movie.

He sits on the couch and Gus looks at him and just stares at him, he's too close. Monte tries to get Farfel off the couch, and Farfel isn't going anywhere, so Monte shoves him on the butt. I tell him to leave him alone, but he ignores me, and shoves him again. Farfel snarls at him and then put's his head back down on the pillow, and just glares at him. I tell him again to leave him alone, that he wasn't going to get off, and he was gonna get bit if he kept it up. "I'll break his neck if he does!" I was about 5" taller than Monte and I didn't like him already, so I say, "Then I'll break yours, after I break a bunch of other stuff first!" He backed down and soon went home. In one date, this girl had fallen for him, big time. He gave her this ring, and she was convinced that Monte was going to marry her, after one date?

Of course, Farfel was right, he never called her, she hunted down Monte's dad, who told her he bought those rings by the dozen and that he was a real sleazball, sleeping with and dumping one girl after another. She stayed in bed for a week, and then moped around for another, diving for the phone every time it rang. I couldn't take it anymore, she was driving me crazy, and so I got on the other phone line and called up, she answered it and I said in a low voice, "Kathy? It's Monte!" She gushes, "Ohhhhh Monte!!", and I was on the floor. She got very upset, but it seemed to snap her out of it, she went to work the next day and wasn't crying!

I think dogs can tell more about people than we can. If Blackie is wary of somebody, then I know something is up. What I really find amazing is that when I'm walking him, he barks at some of the trucks/cars that go buy us, but with the others he is perfectally fine.
For example: This dude in a big dilivery truck stopped right by me because he was asking for directions. Blackie was being very good and didn't do a single thing, even though the truck was loud and it was a strange guy.
But Blackie always barks at the truck our ex neighbor owns whenever it drives past us. The dude is one who I don't feel comfortable with just because of the way he treats his animals (he is the guy with the two Boxers.) He may not out right abuse them, but he does use violent meathods when training them, and I'm pretty sure he has kicked them and thrown them before.

Yeah, I've always known dogs could sense if someone was bad or not, it just amazed me that Gracie so young was able to pick up on it. But good for her to know he's a creepy guy and to stay far far away from him. Most people I encourage to pet her so she learn it's ok. Not him, I took her and left before he ever got the chance to pet her. She was 100% correct in her senses with him and I wasnt about to send her the message that it's still ok to be near bad people who hurts dogs.
