The owner shouldn't have left the dog in the car, but what were the animal control officers thinking??? "Dur, I guess we shouldn't have left the dog in the hot car . . ." Um, DUH?

Sounds like all parties involved have partial blame.

The owner was in between homes, which leads to the presumption that he was living in his car. He gets arrested. Oops, what about the dog?

AC comes out a few times to a vacant lot where there is a dog locked in a car. And each time they leave the poor thing there. I'm sorry- bad judgment calls and they weren't doing their jobs. It's illegal to leave yours dogs in cars for a reason.

Once again, poor dog, at the hands of stupid, irresponsible humans.

Everyone involved.
Here they will break into the car and site the reg. owner of the vehicle.
I was at the races one day and they announced over the p.a. system the car color ,make and license plate # and said that they had broken a window to get their dog out of their car and some water. Now their car is in the parking lot unsecured and dog on it's way to shelter.

I remember that. I thought it was funny that they broke the window, I was kinda mad that some one would bring their animal to a race that lasts 12+ hrs.

All are to blame , except the poor dog !!! The jailed owner could have told them of his dog .... and onward .

the question here is did the prisoner actually tell the officers of the dog in the car and the officers forgot, or think it was a ploy? or did he not tell them about the dog and then try to cover himself later saying he did tell them?

if the man was between homes and living out of his car he should have rehomed the dog, but obviously this is not the case and the dog was stuck when he was carted of...yes the owner is at fault but theres not much he can do when hes in jail.
and of course the animal control AND sherifs dept are at fault for letting the dog stay in the car, i mean personally the first thing id do if i saw a car in a pretty emtpy lot with a dog in it is call the police dept to run a lisence plate check...when the owner of the cars named popped up someone should have said "hey we arreste him the other day hes in jail" and this should have NEVER happend.

Yet another case of a dog suffering due to lack of organization in my opinion.

Yeah, they need to break windows more often, IMO. At least when the weather is hot and you can tell that there haven't been sufficient measures taken to insure the dog's comfort. I was at an ADBA show last year in June, and suddenly the PA system came on and announced that there was a puppy outside in a car, and if the owner didn't come get the dog in 5 minutes, they were going to remove the dog themselves.
