She looks nothing like a wolf, if you know ANYTHING about dogs at all.

She looks like a GSD/Husky mix to me.

She doesn't look "wolfy" to me at all. Wolf hybrids are very distinct looking.

On the contrary to what other people have posted I think she VERY much resembles a wolf hybrid. I've been around my boss's three hybrids (one is 60% and the other two 75%) as well as numerous others from a hybrid rescue that she works very close with. She definately has either GSD/Husky/Malamute in her because that is what they usually cross them with.

They can very much range in appearance depending on the percentage of wolf and what they are crossed with. Some can look alot like a normal GSD with some color differences and some can look very wolf-like. Tosha looks very wolflike to me, her posture, her fur length and how it lays, her body type, her long muzzle and larger ears (which makes me believe she is crossed with GSD)

You posted a pic of her whole body in the early thread

Her body is very much wolf-like, here is a pic of a hybrid with a little more weight on her...Do you see the similarity in the hind end, particularly the hip angles and the way they carry themselves? Tosha's coloring makes me thing she is even more of a percentage than this one.

In some states it is illegal to own a hybrid but since she was obtained from the pound I doubt that would come into play. Since she was wearing a collar, doing no harm, I think your friend has a strong case no matter what the judge thinks about her breed. You would have to get genetic testing done to prove it either way. I hope she wins, no body should take matters into their own hands like this. Call animal control don't shoot the dog...what an idiot.

Here are some more hybrid images just so you can see how much they will vary in appearance. Some you would never even guess have wolf in them because the other breed takes over. This is obviously a malamute cross...

Husky cross...

Probably a shepherd cross but a VERY high percentage wolf...

It is completely impossible to tell from looks alone whether or not a dog is a wolf hybrid.

That being said, it is made even more difficult, because many dogs out there marketed as wolf hybrids are actually just GSD northern breed crosses, that were sold as wolfdogs, then the people who bought them sold their puppies as wolfdogs, etc. I believe many of the "known" wolfdogs out there have very little to no wolf blood in them at all.

She looks like she is a GSD mix, with a very high percentage of shepherd to me. Here are pictures of AKC registered purebred GSDs to illustrate my point:

Husky GSD mix:

You can get very nice pointy wolfy looking faces in many GSD husky mixes, as well as wolfy bodies/movement. Also a wide variety of coat colors, as well as coat lengths and textures.

Having lived with two wolf hybrids, I can tell you it's not in their looks whatsoever. Lots of domestic dog combos look very wolfish. It's mostly in their behavior. If the shelter adopted her out, they should have records of her and what breed/mix she was labeled at the shelter. The shelter is legally responsible for rehoming dogs of restricted breeds, so unless she was adopted as a wolf hybrid (very unlikely) they would definitely swear up and down on your friend's behalf. Our local one wouldn't even let us adopt a "pit mix" without checking with our homeowners insurance first to make sure it was ok.

I'm really sorry to hear about your friend's dog. This is a sad thing to have happen.
