Default Basset back

My relative's dog Just had back surgery, he's a Basset Hound and one day he just quit walking. So they brought him to the vets and they gave him back surgery. He had Ivdd and a hemi-laminectomy, he had pressure on two of his vertabrae. He is back now and starting to use his back legs a bit but what worries Kelley is that she has another Basset and she does not want this happening to her or this dog again. What can she do to prevent back troubles on them? Any advice would be appreciated!

Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM as a preventative help measure. Get ramps to limit jumping.. limit how much he has to climb stairs..

Thanks, I'll tell her that. Has anyone had a dog with a back operation? Do you think he'll be able to walk fully again? He is using his legs a little (he's not really supposed to be walking himself much) but he still knuckles his back feet sometomes and has to sit down. Any other advice would be great!

Dena's doxie had back surgery, so she will probably get on and give you advice. Good luck, and I echo the previous post.
