Default Irish Wolfhound Rescue?

Hey all. I am very interested in getting an Irish Wolfhound in a few years, once I am settled down and have time for a new dog. I have been looking at rescues, but they very seldom seem to have dogs. The only rescue I found with several, I have heard bad things about.
I would rather not have a small puppy. Should I start researching breeders and hope that one has a teenager or adult that needs a home? Is this common? Or are there rescues I am missing?

What rescues have you looked at? I think you should explore ever option possible to find the best dog, I mean look into breeders with older dogs and rescue. But you said in a few years....I would wait to start looking into rescue IMO. But def. start researching breeders if you would like to do that.

Boy this brings up a lot of memories.....

Yeah..GG are..well, we don't need to get in to that here.

I would contact some breeders, and establish a good relationship with them. Sometimes older puppies or more mature dogs are returned to them when the buyers realize they don't have the time or energy for that dog, or any number of other life circumstances change. Also, they may consider adopting a spayed retired breeder female out to a pet home. Just start talking to people and let them know what you'd like, and I'm sure a lot of those folks would really like the idea of having someone to call if one of their puppies gets returned for whatever reason a year or two down the road. Good luck finding the dog you want!

Yeah, Gentle Giants was the one I was talking about. Whole website left a bad taste in my mouth. I'll start talking to some breeders.

Try this:
Irish Wolfhound Club of America

They have a rescue section. They might have dogs in your area.

( trying not to add to the off topic comments already, but ... ... )

Awesome breed... I hope you find a good rescue, or a breeder
