Default Relay For Life!

Saturday night, my friends and I participated in an annual charity event held at the local high school called Relay for Life. For the past two weeks, we've been raising money by going door to door, standing outside of supermarkets, etc. The donations given were then collected as a team (we had 11 members), and given to the committee at the actual Relay. The profits then went to the American Cancer Society, in order to help fund research for the cure.

At the actual relay, you and your group would set up a tent. Once there, at least one member from your team had to be on the track at all times (a rule all groups didn't follow ). Three of my friends and I were practically the only people to stay awake all night without stopping. We were awake from when we arrived at 4:30 p.m., until 6 am the next day.

At the beginning, the relay started out with the 60 cancer survivors there taking a lap around. A very emotional lap. As a whole, the entire event raised $68,000! As a team, we raised $1,060, $40 away from our goal!

Actually, I guess my friends and I look pretty helpful, because about a half hour after it started, a man on the staff asked us if we can build a "Hope" sign out of the luminary bags. How could we say no? It turned out pretty nice too if you ask me! Then at 5 in the morning, we volunteered to collect and blow out the candles in each of the luminary bags set around the track. There were I think 315.

Here's my friends and I by it. Stupid flash screwed it up a bit.

We were really proud, because it was sort of the main attraction. Everyone was admiring it, and taking group photos by it! Here's a picture of my friends and I (the other six girls are older then us, not our friends, but various sisters) Each team is supposed to have a theme. We were fisherman, and our motto was "Fishing for a Cure", hence the T-shirts we decorated.

Thanks for reading! I just thought I'd share!
