I'd say Golden Retriever...but I am biased!

Why? Because their one goal in life is to please their people! Flicka will do anything I ask of her...take a look at the OPs original list:

herd (She's never been with livestock)
retrieve game (Yes)
hunt and track (Never tried)
Search and rescue (Would love to - if I had the time)
watch dog (Yes)
guard dog (Yes)
pull a sled (Never tried - would be interesting, though..)
frisbee (Yes)
guard against predators (Yes)
therapy dog (Yes)
companion (Yes)

She also competes in agility, obedience, and keeps up with all my fosters (and helps whip them into shape)

She is my Jack (or Jane) of all trades.

Since I've joined Chaz and learned more about Filas my admiration of the breed has been growing considerably. There are some breeds I think are fascinating to learn about, and Filas are one of them.

^ I agree!! I've never known anyone with a Fila until I joined Chaz. I finally met my first a while back, he was still a puppy, but already larger than missy!!

On topic, now:

A GSD! Hands down! The "do it all dog" lol

For me it would def. be the Rottweiler. Seeing as how they were bred both to do herding & guard work, they fit the bill from the get go with that. Have met any a great therapy/companion dog and S & R. And Im sure if it came down to it, Spider and I go could duck hunting LOL.

Belgian Shepherd.

They aren't for everyone though..

But I personally find that they are an "all in one" type of dog..

herding, carting, obedience, conformation, SAR, Agility, Rally, tracking, service dog, camping, swimming buddy, retrivals, police work, protection, Flyball the list goes on..

I'm not going to shock everyone by saying that I think a Pit Bull could do all that and more. LOL!

I could see a good, old fashioned Rottie, too. They don't have the physical fragility factor that most of the other dogs mentioned have.
