Default What is the "Jack of All Trades"?

If you were a person that needed a dog that truly did everything what breed would you pick.

You need a dog that would herd, retrieve game, hunt and track, Search and rescue, watch dog, guard dog, pull a sled, frisbee, guard against predators, therapy dog, companion, and any other function I left out.

What would it be?

Which breed is the closest thing to a "Jack of All Trades"?

Border Collies. They can do nearly everything. Amazing, versatile dogs.

Farm-bred German Shepherd, with Border Collie in close second. My only concern with the Border Collie is their size. Even if they have the will to protect (not a quality that's purposely sought after in the breed, but one that seems to be there anyway), they're not big enough to take on larger predators.

Once I would have said a farm bred GSD, now, after living with both, it's definitely a working Fila. Not even a close call.

Samoyed is the first breed that comes to mind. They're gorgeous, sweet natured (the well bred ones) great at sled pulling, and can be great agility dogs. I'm sure you could easily teach one to do a frisbee, they have very high prey drives so hunting wouldn't be difficult (and I'm not sure how they'd be at retrieving)...The Sammi people bred them specifically to be all purpose dogs, and to this day the working lines still are. They are good "cart" dogs, too!
