Default Schnauzers

So on my thread about what breeds would be good for us, schnauzers were suggested a few times, I'm interested in hearing more about the breed.

Our neighbors have a couple, we don't know these neighbors well so I don't know the dogs well either. I do know the the neighbors work all day and the doggies are outside, because they bark, a lot. Will indoor schnauzers do that too? How are they indoors in general? And with kids?

And what about these poo breeds? Like a Schnoodle? What's the point? I have heard it's not good to get one of these, because it's supporting backyard breeding and designer mutts and whatnot, but I'm hoping to adopt from a shelter so that would be ok right, if I saw a dog that was a poodle cross?

I think schnauzers are darling.

Don't know anything about the breed but any dog left outside all day is going to bark its brains out if it doesn't have a job to do. Thats out of bordem more then anything I'd assume.

Only schnauzer I've known was pretty barky, but I don't know much about the breed either. Just wanted to say, getting a poodle mix (or any other mix) from a shelter is absolutely fine! You would NOT be supporting back yard breeders or designer breeders if you got one from a shelter or rescue.

I read that they are very smart...which is good and bad, they can be a little self willed. They could pick up what you are teaching and choose to ignore you but be consistent and he'll follow your leadership. They are alert and a guard dog. They say to make sure you socialize well since they tend to guard objects if not taught "drop it" so just make sure you go through that trading with your dog. They have terrier energy so be prepared for that. They are great with children. So far I have seen nothing about barking.

As far as designers go, if you buy from a breeder it is supporting BYBs and If you get from a rescue you are saving a life and showing that there are "rare" dogs in shelter that BYBs are making and killing.
