Default My dog got a bunny

My dog just brought a baby bunny up to the front steps. He didn't eat it but did kill it. Will this be a problem to his health? (Quite horrifying) How can we stop him from doing this again! I don't think he knew what he was doing but my kids want to punish him.
Thanks for your advice!

I dont see anything wrong with that.

He wont get sick. Dogs are carnivours. Bunny is a prey.

You shouldnt punish your dog for being himself and it doesnt matter now, punishing now wont make a slightest difference.

Eli used to bring me live baby bunnies in his soft mouth. He loved them so. The poor things would always end up dying, though. Too young to be away from their Mamma's. Well, one time (the LAST time) he brought one to me it was actually already dead. I said "Oh, Eli... you killed the boney (that's how I pronounced it ), how COULD you?" And he felt so bad. He was so depressed. He never stole bunnies from their nest again

those baby bunnies die from shock..they die from shock very easily i figure it is the one grace that was giving to something brought in to this world to be food for so many. I have seen dogs eat rabbits many times and suffer no ill effects..the smell alone is enough to make a dog salivate...i doubt you will be able to teach your dog to leave them alone..you would have to be with your dog and teach the command leave it..and mean it..if you used the dead bunny to try to teach that i imagine that would be the best and only way.

My Lab use to get bunnies all the time. It was gross and sad to me, but it's their nature to hunt. You can take the dog out of nature, but you can't take the nature out of the dog. (Is that how that saying goes? LOL)

A few years ago Colby caught a rabbit. They live under our shed and the girls have a blast chasing them.

And then there's wussy Hunter... who's afraid of squirrels! And birds! Well, maybe not "afraid", but there's no way he's serious about going after them. Then there was the time a few weeks ago there was a mouse in my house. Just hopping around acting like it was part of the pet family. Hunter grabbed him in his mouth and I'm sure the mouse started squirming only for Hunter to go PPPPPUUUTTTHHHHOOOOOEEEYYY!!!! And spit him out as fast as he could! Meanwhile, the mouse was puthooyed into my closet of coats. He's probably still there .
