Default Feeding little dog with or without life stages?

What is the best food for little dogs (Boston Terrier) and what does feeding by life stages mean?

I was talking to a women in a pet store and we were looking at good dog foods and she asked if I planned on feeding by life stages. I don't really know what that means.

Is it harmful to the dog if you don't?

All this stuff is really confusing to me. I want a good dog food that isn't going to put me in the poor house; Is it even possible?

feeding by life stages means there is one food for puppies, one for adults and one fore seniors. If you are feeding a food with these stages then I would go by them but there are many good foods that are "all life stages" which means dogs of any age can eat them and it is perfectly healthy for them. One good all life stages (often referred to here in short as ALS) is called Canidae. It is one of the less expensive, great quality foods. Everyone here will be more than happy to help you find a good food. here is the store locater for Canidae to see if you can find a store near you that carries it. http://www.canidae.com/company/storelocator.html
