A breed like that uses the fur to protect from the Sun.
Removing it can make him MORE hot if stuck in the sun for long periods.

Can you get me a baby pool? My dogs cool off in it all summer.

you could shave him down but if he never was shaved it may be a shock to his system and if you choose todo that i would not take him that close to skin

OK - this thread is from April so I'm not sure why it has gained attention now and thanks for the replies but I'M NOT SHAVING HIM! LOL!

I miss you every day, Charlie. You were my teacher, my playmate, and my best friend. Together, we did what we set out to do, and I am so proud of us for that.

I know it's an older thread, and you've decided not to shave him, but I thought I'd throw a couple suggestions out there for you to help Charlie beat the summer heat...

Cool Coats - they're really helpful, and this link has them for a great price!

Canine Cooler Beds - This may not be an option if Charlie is a chewer:

*I used to use these when I'd take the dogs out during the summer - I'd put them in the bed of the truck (it was covered with a camper top) and it kept them nice and cool back there.

Cooler Bandanas- I've used these too and loved them!
