one of my dads rotts died a while ago. and he came home a few days ago with a 10 wk old female giant schnauzer. he knows nothing about them. its awful he got her from a BYB.
anyone with experience with this breed? i have a feeling he will not wanted after he reads what i have read. I *might* end up taking her if i move (its a great possibility i will be moving and can have her)

i don't know much about them. but i read up a little bit.
says there your typical velcro dog, protective, responsible and loyal. intelligent, dominant with a terrier attitude and a huge amount of energy. one of the most susceptible breeds to cancer.. particularily of the toe... epilepsy, hip dysplasia and bloat are also common. but it woudl depend on the particular dog to its temperment |

Raised properly they can be very gentle dogs (my ex had one) great with family, kids, etc. Need a decent amount of grooming, somewhat protective, good in agility... that's all I know from his particular dog though sorry

Oh, wow. I knew a breeder awhile back. From what I remeber they are great family dogs with a TON of energy, which maybe they grow out of, I don't know. Beautiful dogs. I would love one, myself.
Hope it works out. Too bad your dad does not know what he has gotten himself in to. Lucky the pup has you if needed. Let us know how it goes! |

I grew up next door to one named Baron. He was everything anyone could want in a dog. Sweet, playful, smart, good with kids and amazingly beautiful. I guess you can tell I love the giants.

I have a great deal of experience with Giant Schnauzers and frankly I think they're awesome. They are a difficult breed, one that needs to be respected at all costs and socialized, but they have very solid temperments and are just fantastic dogs.
Whether or not he plans on grooming the dog, he NEEDS to start bringing it to the groomer NOW! I can't even count the number of Giant Shnauzers that have tried to eat me when I had to shave them down. They also need intense socialization with humans and other dogs during these formative times. I really do like the breed. It is a difficult breed but definitely an awesome one at the same time. |
