Just curious, because I know a lot of people are going to homecooked/raw with all the recalls, or are switching to some of the grain-free kibble products out there...
I feed Auggie Canidae. I feel pretty comfortable feeding him Caindae, knowing they use only products from here in the US. I know just because the products come from the US there's no guarantee they won't be contaminated, but I feel like there's no guarantee on, well... anything. Even raw... if the pig/cow/turkey/chicken ate contaminated feed, even that could carry risks... (Nothing is saaaaaafe! The world is endiiiiing! *flails crazily*) I don't want to start a debate or anything, and I have nothing against raw or home-cooked! I'm just curious, and maybe looking for some reassurance. => Who else feels comfortable with what they're feeding? (I feel comfy with the Canidae, but I would be lying if I wasn't thinking about other options. I'm not equipped, freezer/fridge space or knowledge-wise, for raw right now, or I think I'd be running in that direction with the rest.)

I am glad that Canidae only gets there products from the US, but I would feel SO much better if we went to a grain free food.
But as of right now, I am honestly totally comfortable feeding raw. After some stuff I just read (thanks foxy) I am going to take the plundge probably and start raw. |

I'm somewhat annerved with some of the latest information that's come out about this recall but I'm pretty comfortable with what I feed. (some raw, some Orijen, some canned , tripe etc)
Curious of how you know all of Canidaes' ingredients are grown in the USA?

"To all our valued customers, retailers and friends,
Unfortunately, we are being inundated by recall questions, and we may not be able to return all e-mails in a timely manner. To reiterate, CANIDAE in no way is affiliated, nor has any common characteristics with the current pet food re-call, as we do not use wheat gluten or rice gluten in any fashion, and we are not produced in any of the recalled facilities. All ingredients are proudly raised and grown in the USA. We thank you for your business and placing your pets' trust with us. Sincerely, Canidae Pet Foods" |

I'm a little unsettled about everything at the moment, but I am as comfortable as I can be with what I'm feeding (raw and EVO/Cali natural)

And in reply to Tosca's Mom's email:
"Dear Cynthia, To reiterate, CANIDAE Pet Foods is in no way is affected by the current can re-call, and we aren't, or have never been, produced at any of the recalled facilities. We do not produce Cuts and Gravy, Pouches, and none of our products contain wheat, or wheat gluten. With the current cuts and gravy recall by a large co-packer, and all the misleading information, we thought we would help explain the production of canned foods. There are only a hand full of co-packers that are located in the US and they produce most canned foods. A few companies choose to have their cans made outside the US, and may or may not disclose that information to you. The pet food industry co-packers are no different from the human products we ourselves eat or drink on a daily basis. Each formula is different and unique to the specific pet food company in which the formulas are owned. Ingredients, quality grade of meats, grade of carbohydrates, vitamin and mineral formulations, to name a few, are all at the discretion of the pet food company in which the products are produced for, and are apparent by the governmental regulated labels. Our heartfelt concerns go out to all involved and or affected by the re-call.All Canidae products are produced in the USA. We do not purchase ingredients from any suppliers outside of the US. All Canidae ingredients are grown &/or raised in the USA. In addition, we only purchase the absolute best USDA grade "A" hormone and antibiotic free meats. Our rice is also grade "A" Pesticide free. Our fish is FDA inspected and passed residual free of ethoxiquin. Our cannery is a small facility located in IL. and able to produce the highest quality products. This small family operated facility only produces products that are of the highest quality human grade ingredients. Our formulations were created by an outside nutritionist that has been developing canned foods for over 35 years. You can feel assured by our quality and product performance that our cannery holds the highest standards in production, and is regulated by AAFCO by (NRC), USDA, FDA, IDA, EU Approved and is Organically Certified. Our dry foods are produced in TX. Our plant has been involved in animal nutrition for over 75 years. The original pet food extrusion mill was built in 1978. CANIDAE's involvement with the plant sparked the introduction of our own extruder in 1999. Our dry goods facility also regulated by AAFCO by (NRC), USDA, FDA, TDA and EU Approved. We are currently under production with a brand new plant at the same facility to keep up with the growth and demand of our product line. In order to ensure the highest quality meat based biscuit ever created, we ventured into the biscuit production business in 2003. Our 100 foot oven runs our fresh biscuits daily in a building opposite our extrusion plant in TX. Our biscuit plant is also regulated by AAFCO by (NRC), USDA, FDA, TDA and EU Approved. Sincerely, Team Canidae" |

the chis eat RC mini chi mixed with merrick.
im a little worried about the RC just because their sensible choice was recalled but they assure me their mini, medi and maxi and cat lines are NOT effected. Merrick im secure with. im more worried because the chis are so picky that if there was a recall on either of their prefered foods theres nothing they could eat long term (they even turn their nose up at home cooked after a few days *blink*) the only reason i plan on feeding my Dane raw is NOT because of the kibble scare, but because im terrifeid of the health problems giant breeds can have and im thinking im gonna give him the best chance possible by going with the most natural diet possible. i still feel comfortable selling both Merrick and the uneffected Royal Canin products in my store, as soon as i feel different they will be off the shelf quicker than one can say "Hello!"

I feed all 3 of my chihuahuas' Orijen... and I'm comfortable feeding it (about as comfortable as I can be, anyway). It's made in Canada... grain free... doesn't use any outsourcing. I hope it remains safe.

i feed rah raw, so im comfortable with it
he occassionally gets a few kibbles of innova because my tenants dog eats it, and i also feed honest kitchen occassionally (grain free) to mix in a supplement 3-4 times a week. he ate more of it this past week since his paws were injured because he couldnt hold raw food to eat it. my "foster" dog eats honest kitchen, raw and innova - but much more innova and honest kitchen than raw, because he doesnt chew very well and it takes him FOREVER to eat. im comfortable with all of them, tho. im switching my moms dog and cats to EVO and california naturals.
