Default is it bad to switch food cold turkey?

I was wondering if it'd be bad to switch food cold turkey?

Our new little guy was fed purina PUPPY (not large breed puppy just regular puppy) kibble but we feed Canidae. I have been giving him a little more Canidae each day to his regular Purina Puppy food but basically I'm out of Purina but have not finished the transition. Will it be ok to just give him all Canidae tomorrow or should I get a little bag of purina?

He's a golden retriever and is 11 weeks old and about 12 pounds or so. He's a big little boy.

How long have you been feeding 1/2 and 1/2? When I switched Charlie's food the vet told me to do it gradually over a period of 5-7 days. By the 7th day he was on 100***37; new food and he had no problems.

I miss you every day, Charlie. You were my teacher, my playmate, and my best friend. Together, we did what we set out to do, and I am so proud of us for that.

We got Elwood Saturday and just got a ziploc bag half full of his old kibble but I thought we got more than we actually did. So he ate Saturday evening with a little canidae mixed with Purina. Now he is on 3/4 cup canidae and 3/4 cups purina with a spoonful of canidae canned and everything looks great.

Since you are feeding Canidae, I don't see a problem with switching over quickly. I never mix foods before switching, but my dogs are for the most part, iron guts. He will most likely be fine with the Canidae.

I wouldn't waste any money on Purina. I bet he'll be fine.

ok good. He doesn't seem to have any problems. We have a lot of trouble getting him to eat though because he just doesn't seem interested in slowing down to eat. I have to tempt him with the couple spoonfuls of canned and even then sometimes he won't eat good. He only at half his breakfast this morning so he just go fed agian and will get fed agian this evening but still he just isn't really thrilled with eating.

Many of my switches have been cold turkey..

Run out of kibble go to closest stores.. they are out of my bag. Or a manufacturer was a skeazy company and made changes.. so I didn't realize I was making a switch..

We've had some plop poops alogn the way, but not endless or that horrible..

Well he was fed entirely Canidae this evening (finished his whole bowl for once too). So we'll see how he does. I just realized that with the Canidae I have cut down his food enormously. The people we got him from fed him 2 cups 2 times a day of the pedigree and we should feed him about a cup of Canidae a day.

Yeah I do that too for all the dogs. Especially when they are young like Elwood it's easier for them to eat I think. I just don't think he wants to slow down to eat but it could also have been because he was eating like a cup and a half at eat sitting (which is the same amount Hannah eats) and that was probably way too much for him at his size and age.
