Default More food toxic to dogs

I just read an article published in Better Homes & Gardens' June issue:

Toxic to dogs:

Sugarless gum: Contains xylitol, a sugar alcohol that can cause blood sugar to drop rapidly

Macadamia nuts: contain a compound that may leave a dog with temporary paralysis in his hind legs. Dogs will recover from this with no treatment and no long-term effect.

They also said no to:

Onions: damages blood cells and can cause anemia; 1 small onion can be fatal

Raisins: can cause fomiting, diarrhea and kidney failure

Chocolate: may cause excitement, increased urination, muscle tremors, seizures and rapid heart rate

They should put labels on food, saying which is toxic, and which isn't.

broccoli isn't toxic for dogs. that's an old wives tale.

i know it gets posted in all kinds of places on the internet, but i really believe someone probably found some information without proper context and hyped it up, and then it gets crossposted over and over. and if you read it 5 or 10 times, it must be true, right? lol

broccoli contains isothiocyanate (aka mustard oil), which is considered a gastrointestinal irritant, but how well it is tolerated depends on the individual animal and the amounts you feed. cooked is often tolerated better than raw (and is also less prone to cause gas).

the only reference i have ever heard about it actually being toxic was in cattle, and even that only when fed a diet consisting of 25% and more broccoli for a prolonged time.
