Default I dont know what breed she is..

At first i thought Yuki was a Maltese or shitzu mix. But her personality didnt fit the Maltese and only her color fit the shitzu. Then someone suggested that she might be a havanese. is there anyway that i can test her or something to find out what she is? My trainer suggested that i should compare her to the standards.i did some research she fits all the requirements even the temperment. Because if she's a Havanese i want to register her and maybe show her? but i think im disqualified already since i had her fur clipped short @_@ and havanese cant have their fur trimmed in any way when they are shown

heres a picture last year im not sure if we trimmed her. her eye are dark brown

please let me know if you know anyway to tell if shes a havanese.

Well, she definately looks like a Havanese.

If you don't have proof of her breeding, and the sire and the dam, you cannot show her in conformation showing - which is the part about keeping them natural-coated.

However, you can get an ILP (Indefinate Listing Privilege) for her, which allows her to compete in AKC events, such as agility or obedience. Both my dogs have their ILP number.

Here's some more information: http://www.akc.org/reg/ilpex.cfm

You could also go through a different organization, such as the UKC. I've never done anything with UKC, but I've heard the procedure is very similar.

Good luck!

I'll try to dig up some more info about her from the friend that gave her to me. I just found out that she has the BLACK PARTI BELTON gene, cause i remembered last year when we shaved her she had black spots on her skin.
thank you so much! ill see if i can get her a ILP after i finish high school and have more time!

When i first got her i thought she was a west highland terrior breed, and maybe shitsu cause of her ears and maltese cause she was white.
i didnt even know what a havanese was until this lady told me when we met at petco when i was buying food. Is there anyway i can test dna? or is the only way to find the parents and compare to standard?

I'm not sure you can DNA test to find out what breed a dog is...unless you have two dogs that you wanna test to see if they're the parents (therefore knowing for sure if the pup in question is the same breed as -or a mix of- the parents).

Unless you know who the parents are you'll never really know for sure. She could very well be a Shi Tzu mix or maltese mix (or even Lhasa Apso mix). Although I can see where someone might get Havanese from.

Cass.

Default DNA test for Dogs

You can test DNA for dogs without doing a parentage test, although there are only 38 verified breeds at this point (out of the 151 registered dog breeds). Shih Tsu is one of the verified breeds, but Havanese, Maltese and Lhasa Apso haven't been verified yet. Verification means that all the tested animals in that breed share the same gene pattern.

You can find more information at http://www.metamorphixinc.com/about6.html, where they explain the difference between the Canine Heritage (breed) test and the Canine Parentage test.
