My 3 pound Chihuahua just got into the trash and chewed off the ends of a chicken drumstick bone, all except a small portion of the middle. I can't find any websites that tells me what I should do after it happens (only one I found that says to feed her lots of food and cooked rice to "cushion" the pieces of bone so that it digests easier), so I am wondering is there anything else I can do.. I am really panicking right now because I can't find any info! Help, please!!!

I would call an emergency vet hotline, just tell them you are too far away to transport your dog and need to know a quick fix if you dont want to take your dog in...here is a number to the Emergency Animal Hospital in Kansas City, they are really good 913-642-9563
dont quote me but the rice thing sounds somewhat right, I also heard canned pumpkin, but I would call the number and ask Last edited by rlmtyco; 03-25-2007 at 11:42 PM. |

Thank you, I called this morning and they told me that feeding her rice was a good thing to do, but soon after she ingested the bones pieces, which I did. I've also been feeling on her abdomen and there seems to be no discomfort, so that's also a good thing. The vet told me that it's basically a waiting game, and to monitor her for the next few days to make sure she's ok.... I'm hoping for the best!

She'll most likely digest it and pass it by tomorrow. Hope everything is OK!
