I have some question on the shap pei coats.
How is the differnce between the brush and horse coats? A puppy I have touched it was short ad the texture like a hard brush. so I guess he was a brush caot. The other (an adult) her hair was a bit longer, softher still hard but not as hard like the previous one, so she could be a horse coat? How is the texture on the two coats? And If is true that have diffent personalties depending on the coat? Also I think this puppies legs seem a bit skinny to me, is normal or they are very young?

The difference is length & texture. Brushcoats are obviously the longer variety, but cannot exceed 1 inch.
To the touch, the horsecoat is a little softer but it should still be harsh According to some breeders, both varieties do tend to have different personalities (the horsecoat being the more dominant & less-friendly with strangers). I find that the easiest way to tell a horsecoat from a brushcoat is looking at the tail. Horsecoats usually have a rat-like tail; very skinny, compared to a more 'bushy' brushcoat tail. Also, the link to the picture didn't work. |

I think they have diffrent personalities. I think the brush coats are a little more easy going.
the horse coats also seem to have the worse skin issues. the ears are generally flat to the skull. My grandmas lucy will raise her ears kinda if she is in a dog bow play position but I think a lot of it has to do with gravity

Mine don't raise their ears but they do move in reaction to sound. I notice it alot more with my older one, whos ears are larger & have no curl (compared to my youngest, who has very small/tightly curled ears).
