Hmmm with 3 cats I wouldn't suggest a JRT or JRT X, not unless you would be willing ( for the cats safety) to rehome them. Jrts and cats can get along, but extreme caution must be used and never leave them unattended together.

Well thank you all for your advice. I went to the animal shelter about 4 days ago and fell in love with this 2 year old English Setter mix. She is a female named Lizzie, very cute and so sweet. Has anyone had any expierience with english setters?

I would say don't narrow it down to a particular breed. Go to your local shelter or pound or look on petfinder. You can find the perfect dog to fit your lifestyle, usually they know a little about the dogs behavior and temperment around others. PLUS you are saving the life of a dog that doesn't deserve to die or be stuck in a shelter in a cage.
