Default Showing My Dog

I'm not a complete newbie when it comes to showing dogs. But this I must know. I have a Shih Tzu who is 2 years old and she is show quality. She has AKC papers but I don't believe we ever actually registered her. I'm not really even sure how that works. Can I register her any time as long as I have the papers? What's the deal with that? Thx in advance.

i don't remember..i am sorry it has been too long for me to recall, but if you write the akc or find them on the web.i am sure there is someone that can tell you. Are u planning to breed your dog? is that the reason u wish to show? most dogs are earning their points to show the quality of dog from a kennel and to increase their value as a breeder. Just wondering. i am sure other will have better answers than me..

Question Yes, I think

First you will have to determine which kennel club your dog is registered with (i.e. AKC, UKC etc.) Once that has been determined, you can contact the kennel club for more information. It should tell you on the back of your registration papers on what to do regarding this issuse. If I remember correctly, you can still register your dog, but I believe there is a fine when it is done late. If you dog is registered with AKC, you can visit their website @ http://www.akc.org. By the way, do you plan on showing your dog?

Hope this helps!!

Yes I do plan on showing her. I do not plan to breed her, I'm only 18 years old so when I move out of my parents house my plans are to do agility and show Jack Russell Terriers (wire haired). The Shih Tzu is not the breed of my choice, it's my moms dog (I have 2 Shih Tzu's), they are good dogs but a bit girly for a big guy like me. But I figure it's good for her and will give me experience.

Thanks.

Good plan, Fanndog.

I used to have a big macho friend - about 6'5" and burly - who did all those manly things, worked on cars, played Sunday afternoon football with the guys, the whole bit. But the loves of his life were his Yorkies! He even had an airbrushed T-shirt with pictures of the four of them and their names . . . no one ever had the nerve to laugh at him about those little dogs.

I am, I go back and fourth between breeds every day. One day it's Jack Russell Terrier next day Border Collie the next day a Brittany the next day a Bernese Mountain dog and so on... I am looking for a particular breed for the FUTURE.
