Default Lab question

Should a lab have any black in the roof of his mouth? Is he born without rear dew claws?
Training a new roadside rescue. Think he's a lab, but he seems too strong, has a wrinkle across his head when he is smelling a track. His eyes seem more pitbull like than lab, and his skull is wider than labs, short muzzle.
Just wondered if any sign of black in the roof of mouth is present in pure bred labs.

Dewclaws need to be cut off. They are not born without. I have seen labs with black ont he roofs of their mouths but am not sure if it is a characteristic in the breed or not Maybe someone else can answer that more efficantly for ya.

You may have a Lab mix. Without a picture it's hard to tell. They can have some black in the mouth, but it's not a usual trait. The wrinkling of the head and your description makes your rescue sound more like a hound/pit/lab mix??? Any pics?

My dog is half lad and half shar-pei so he has black on his tongue and some on the roof of his mouth. Since shar-peis are wrinkly he has a lot of extra skin (although they are not in the form of wrinkles) and when he sniffes he also gets wrinkles on his forehead. His snout is slightly shorter than a labs but not much. His eyes are also not like a labs, exactly but, i don't know if they look like pits eyes, although some people have asked me if he has pit bull in him.

Actually i'm not sure if he really is exactly half lab (i know he is half shar-pei bacause he was given to the shelter because his purebred mom got out and became pregnant, the owner was furious) His legs are super skinny compred to a shar-pei or even a lab.

just a thought there could be shar-pei in him, but it's more likely there are many breeds in him.

My thanks to each of you for trying to answer my question. I have had black labs, yellow labs, american labs, english labs, show labs, and hunting labs.....so I'm not exactly a stranger to labs. However, all my labs came with one important feature....AKC papers! Then you know the dogs are pure, and how old they are. When I saw this guy walk out of the brush and onto the highway with no tags, I felt he was a yellow lab for sure, ...but upon closer examination, he had a broader head and shorter muzzel that most labs. His eyes are dark brown, and the lids, lips, and nose are jet black. If I could put up a picture (I have dialup connectin and it doesn't seem to work on pictures) you would swear he is a english show lab. Having rehomed a pitbull recently, I spent 6 months with her first, I know they are solid muscle and bond like glue to their owner, and tend to smell funny..it's like the sweat or something. This dog has all those qualities, so I'm guessing a mix. Also, this yellow "lab" has black or purple skin on belly and inside legs.
I found another breed that looks exactly like this dog, called a "Kemmer", which is a deliberate crossbreed used to hunt wild hogs here in Texas and other big game throughout the Souther States...but those breeders are unclear as to what he is also. I am trying to train him as a duck dog, but he seems to lack the natural instincts of the Labrador, hence my question about black in the roof of the mouth, of which he has a lttle.
