Neither, really, but a Pom if I had to choose. GSDs are just too big. Also, I realize that coming from a collie/terrier person, this may sound rich, but I dislike the sharpness of the shepherds. When a collie has a hissy fit or a terrier goes bonkers about something, it's a sort of performance piece. When a GSD alerts on something, it has a rather nasty authoritative attitude. I always think it must be like living with a cop who's forever thinking "that's not right, I must put that back into place" and it would drive me crazy.
Plus there's the shorter lifespan of big dogs and the heartbreaking health problems, and I think a Pomeranian would be more fun. Plus, you know, I've always wanted a dog I could take as a carry-on on flights.

GSD because I like bigger dogs
 but poms are adorable, there's a lady at work in a wheelchair who has a little pom that rides with her everywhere, they are inseperable

I like pomeranians better... I'm more of a small dog person
 Although, I do think that GSDs are great dogs.

i dont like small dogs, but i would chose the pom
every single GSD i have ever met has been growly, and mean  i met two poms and i just adore them!
