He was taken to the groomers for a flea and tick bath...I give him flea and tick baths..and I use an ear mite remedy on him and still he has fleas. He has already received about 6 flea baths and still those little sucker are on him. I'm using four paws flea shampoo...does anyone have advice on what shampoos I should use that are effective? And are there any shampoos that get rid of larvae??

get some frontline or advantage and apply that (has to be 48 hours after a bath) and treat your house as well. wash dog bedding, get a flea collar and put it in your vacuum bag and vaccuum like crazy.

flea baths have no risidual effect- as soon as you rinse the dog, fleas are free to jump right back on with no effect. if they're on your dog in that number, they're almost certainly in your home as well.

What elegy said...

Get a flea medicine. Flea baths are only temporary. Use flea medicine (Advantage or Frontline-water proof) every 2 weeks. Bathe once a week or more if needed. Not always using flea shampoo tho. It's very drying, and not good for the skin to use so often

What elegy said. Jester's on Frontline and I haven't seen a flea since we got him. Cool idea for the vaccuum though!

Flea baths don't work as you may realize by now. Frontline or Advantage is the ONLY way to go if you want results. Don't buy different brands to try to save money, they don't work. AND...remember, where there are fleas, there are tapeworms!

Agree ... shampoos are not effective . I had a lost Pug here for 2 days who was infestive with fleas.! I took him in to check for micro chip and bought 1 flea tab...to kill all fleas in 12 hours. I was afraid of my house and Ollie e.g. eggs, but he is on K9 Advantix and I haven't seen one flea !

I use frontline on all my dogs and after you spray them down good and rub it in..Don't bathe them for about 3 days. This works really good. I get the spray bottle instead of the drops you put on the back of their necks. You can use the one spray bottle on all your dogs as much as you want, and its also a bit cheaper. I get it for 20 bucks at the vet.And it lasts a while.

for immediate relief, in fact this product is known to work in as little as 30 minutes, there's a pill put out called Capstar, (11.4mg)=dogs and cats2-25 lbs, and (57.0mg)=over 25 lbs, that is effective in killing adult fleas (only).
You can use this product in combination with your monthly preventative. Again, it is for immediate relief. The vet I work for sells this and consumers swear by it.
Remember tho, adult fleas are only a PART of the problem.
Adult fleas represent 5% of the problem. Then, there's the Pupae, 10% of the problem, then the Larve, 35% of the problem, and then finally, the eggs, 50% of the problem. ALL these "aresa" need to be treated, for if not, then it's just a matter of time before your animal/house/bedding, etc, are reinfested.
Capstar (nitenpyram) enters the gastrointestional tract and is absorbed rapidly into the bloodstream. It can be used safely, as often as once a day, if reinfestation occurs.

I have had better luck with Advantage or Advantix than Frontline. Frontline kills the fleas after they bite your dog, Advantage kills them when they get on your dog....
