Default What's safe?

Hi everyone,
I'd like to know what places are "safe" to take a puppy who doesn't have all their vaccinations. I'm assumin I could take it into petsmart or something for a collar, but not to the dog park, correct?

I personally wouldn't take it anywhere . If you travel to bring a pup home and HAVE to stop for a pee or poop , bring some disinfectant to wipe off pup's feet .

Eek, okay.
Yeah we will probably be driving the dog home after we get it. What kind of disinfectant for the feet?
And what about going for walks and stuff?

I think one of the biggest things is how important you would regard socialisation. 7-12 weeks is one of the best windows to socialise a pup, and some vaccination programs don't have the last jab until 12 weeks.

We are bringing our pup home in 10 days (and counting!) and after speaking to both our vet and the breeder, I will most likely be taking the pup out in my arms with only the first vaccination. I know that here, Parvo in paticular is at a low and I'm not convinced I want to miss the best spot for socialisation because I'm worried there is a chance he may get something. Of course I'm not stupid, I'm not going to go to the local park and let him run with a load of unown dogs. But I will be taking him out to meet people in my arms.

Be sensible.

Check with your vet as to a disinfectant . Years ago I only had a bleach and water solution . Maybe today's baby wipes would be enough . I know our clinic always spray their tables before examining ...so it must be dog friendly . It's always to be safe than sorry .

Be sensible. I think it's silly not to socialize your puppy because you're afraid that it will catch something.

We took our 8 week puppy everywhere with us, never wiped off his paws, and let him play with other dogs that we knew. He never had worms, parasites, or any other problems.

However, Bubbatd and other people have been dealing with dogs for a lot longer than I have so I'm not the best source of information at all. Good luck!!

I wouldnt take them anywhere. I've seen what parvo can do to a 12 week old pup, and I really dont want to repeat that again. I was worried enough of what we might bring in on our shoes. I do not want to take any chances. Once they're vaccinated though, socialize all you want!
