I bought the VPI insurance after I took a friend of mine to the emergency vet some months back when her dog got sick. I saw person after person there spending way over $500, some as high as $1000 or more for X-rays, and IV's etc...... I am covered up to $8,000 with a $50 deductable for about $135 a year.

partly it depends on where you live and what the cost of vet care is there.
i personally have about $1000 available, not counting credit cards. when my poodle was hospitalized for pancreatitis her bill was over $1000 before the discount i had from working there.

I live in an area that is small and doesn't have huge vet hospitals. I may be wrong, but we might still actually be in debt from Pepper's surgeries to remove her tumors. Our vet is very generous and lets us pay it back when we can. My parents are honest people and always do as soon as we can, but when Pepper's life was on the line, our vet said he'd jsut put it on the bill, and he'd expect it in a given amount of time(and was very generous with that time). We are lucky to have such a great, and inexpensive vet.

well... Bella's broken leg incident cost about 700 or so.
Elle's xrays and visit were about 500 and now her surgery is going to be about 1400. Bella will need to be fixed soon and Cali is due on her annuals soon. that insurance sounds good right about now. Elissa |

The most expanesive vet visit I've had so far would have been $200 and that was ONLY for Riots shots and wormer for the winter...
Riot has his own little bank account that I keep putting money into so he can use it for his food, vet visits and extras.. I usually keep around $500 in it at all times as a minimum.

Most expensive was probably about $1000, but that involved a visit to an emergency after-hours clinic.
My parents will cover "big" vet bills, but when I move out I'll get insurance for the dogs.
