Default Considering a Siberian Husky?

Read this before you decided its the breed for you. Im telling you 4 of my sibes are shelter dogs given up because the owners were not prepared for the husky attitude and manner. And so they became unruley and problem dogs thrown to the side when they became to much. Unfortunatly i cannot save them all. Read both these lists to know if this is the breed for you.

If you want a dog who...

Is medium-sized and furry, with a wolfish appearance
Is free-spirited and playful
Is athletic and agile and loves the great outdoors, especially in cold weather
Thinks that running full-speed, pulling carts and sleds, and/or carrying a backpack on a mountain hike is his purpose in life
Is usually good-natured with strangers and sociable with other dogs
A Siberian Husky may be right for you.

If you don't want to deal with...

Vigorous exercise requirements
Rowdiness and exuberant jumping, especially when young
Massive destructiveness and howling when bored, left alone too much, or not exercised enough
Strong instincts to chase and grab anything that runs
Escaping from your yard in search of adventure
Strong-willed mind of his own, requiring a confident owner who can take charge
Heavy shedding
A Siberian Husky may not be right for you.

I always love reading your posts and advice. I love husky's. I want to get one, but I rent and I already have a Malamute and now a great dane, but I will get one when I get my own house. Or maybe when I move.
They are a great breed, but like you said come with their share of problems if not treated right.

I don't need a Husky. I have a brother that's exactly the same way.

So long as I can count the clothes on the floor as "shedding".

That is very true. I have a husky and i love him. He is so much fun. Of course theres the shedding, constant howling, always jumping, etc. But i have a cocker spaniel too so he's not so lonely when im not around.
They are very beautiful dogs, but alot of work. The only bad thing about most of them is when it comes to meeting new people there very skitish. I thought it was just my dog but i have met other people who have had the same problem. It takes time to "warm up" to new people.
Otherwise they are in my opinion wonderful dogs. and they sure do get Alot of attention =)

I love my Kona she does not bark at all she is by far the quetest dog in our area. She never chews on our stuff. But and I say But I make sure that she does not do these things. I have learned that if you are a person that can not step up to your dog and let it know ho is boss then the Husky will walk all over you. They do like to bolt the first chance they get. It drives me nuts but that is just what Husky's do so if you are an inpasent person then I would not get a husky. I get coments on Kona every time I go out she is the best freind a person can have
