How do you think that our purebred dogs today got that way? Through selective breeding, and, in many cases, through carefully planned and monitored crosses. IMO all breeding should be heavily licensed and strictly monitored until such time as we are not killing 5 million animals a year in the USA.

Look I honestly couldn't agree with you more - I really couldn't. The reason I started this thread in the first place was because of exactly the kinds of situations you describe. I wasn't trying to start a fight! Sorry....

And I agree about all breeding being heavily licensed. I guess being fairly new to the site you wouldn't yet have seen all the threads and arguments about the awful doodle craze sweeping the world. I am always involved in those threads because I have Labradoodles.

But happily I must say, I think I have been instrumental on this site at least of singling out Labradoodles as a dog that has a real chance of becoming recognised as a breed, and that is what a lot of this thread is about. It unfortunately won't stop money-hungry puppy millers from producing hundreds of F1 crosses, and I agree with you entirely.

However, I find the word `mutt' offensive, particularly in the context within which you used it, no matter what dog it is applied to, and I feel that there are more polite ways of expressing one's views. Perhaps that's what I'm really disagreeing with, because I certainly don't disagree with your opinion.

Well I am glad we agree
Mutt is an affectionate term for any mix breed dog for me. Mutt, mongrel, mix hybrid etc... call it what you will. I love mutts... all of em... even the pure breds

I think maybe that's different where I live. I know it's not supposed to be derogatory, but it's certainly used that way where I'm from. However, I drift from the point (as I often do)...
