My HEART dog is Buster we go everywhere together, he`s a super Dobe, protective and loyal, coudn`t ask for more. I think he understands about 50 words easily. He`s a Rescue Dobe and we got together through Dobermann Rescue UK, best thing I`ve ever done. Maybe it`s the rescue thing that creates a strong bond after being ditched once already, Brunek is the same but more laid back (chocolate Dobe ) not sure about little Kenzie, he`s still a young hooligan, like most young Dobes.

I had not heard the expression before I came to this site, and was pm-ing with one of the members, who said, `I guess Ruby is your heart dog'. I instantly identified with what she said, Ruby is my girl forever. I love my Chester, I love him to bits, but my Ruby is the one dog out of all the dogs I've had, who made me fully understand what a joy they are, and how you can fall so head-over-heels in love with them that they consume your whole life.

So, let's hear about yours - I'm looking forward to the laughter and the tears!
What a neat phrase- your heart dog. I personally identify my "heart dog" as being the first one who opened my heart enough for me to experience the love I can now feel for all my animals...but in my case I had a "heart horse". His name was Star High, I had him from childhood, and he really showed me how to let animals into my heart. His death inspired me to write a real tear jerker poem called "An Epitaph for Two When Mortality Expires"- in dedication for all of us when we lose our "heart animal". I'll post it in a new thread if anyone wishes to read it and remember...

Beautiful stories and a lovely poem Luvinbullies. Skye is my heart dog. When I got her I had been told some time before that I would never carry a baby to term. At first I was devastated but had come to terms with that. When we settled here and the time was right I started looking for my dog. I wanted a GSD and looked high and low. To cut long story short I found instead a litter of Boxers. One little female was just tumbling over herself trying to get to me. I took her in my arms and ... that was it

To everyone's astonishment I learned soon after getting Skye that I was pregnant. I walked on glass that whole pregnancy convinced that I'd lose the baby. (**** that doctor to hell for putting me through that!) SKye, a rambunctious bouncy boxer seemed to understand and though we had a lot of fun during that time she saved her roughhousing for everybody else and her loving for me. She'd lean against my leg or lie across my legs. She never left my side and at times I told her I was going to change her name to Shadow.

I was worried that Skye would be jealous of the baby. Though I had no need to worry then or later when my second child was born. As Skye's place in the pack was gently adjusted she just went with the flow. My boy learned to walk hanging on Skye's collar.

Her favourite time of day (and mine, ssshhh is when the kids are finally tucked up in bed. Then and only then she comes over to the sofa and asks me to come up. I pat a place by my side and she clambers up, lays beside me lets out a long shuddering sigh and closes her eyes.

I, too, get teary when I think of losing my girl. I can't imagine not having her by my side. I hope that day is a long time away.

i believe yoshi is my heart dog
she's not the most well behaved dog, she gets excited with new people and she's got a little bit of seperation anxiety. but she's so loving. she always knows when i'm tired or sick and she'll curl up on top of me she has no idea how big she is lol. at night she'll lay right next to me and shove her head under my arm so my arm is around her all night. she knows if my knee is hurting me *numerous injuries have completely crapped my knee up*

when i go camping she always goes, i can let her off her leash and she stays near me. even when she runs off to checks omething if i call she'll stop and come back . she sleeps in the tent with me and even goes swimming with me. she doesn't like to be under the covers but she'll sleep on top of them and under them ONCE IN A WHILE when it's cold.

i got her when i was living pay check to pay check, i was renting a room in the upstairs of a ladys house, i was making 5.15 an hour working p/t and paying 400/month rent. i had run away from home and didn't have contact with any of my family. in short it was the worst time in my life to have gotten a dog. but i did it anyway. she wasn't my first choice but when i found out they were going to put her down i changed my mind and took her, yet another thing i had known i shouldn't do. but i'm so glad i did.

yoshi has taught me how to budget my money much better. i have to worry about her food and vet bills and toys
there were some times when i couldn't afford to eat that night because i had to go buy yoshi food and when i gave it to her she'd look at me like 'mom why aren't you going to eat?'
she was there for me when i moved back home
she was there for me when i found out my parents where getting a divorce
she was there when my mom left
she was there when my car broke down, i didn't have any rides anywhere, and i was stranded at home
she was there when i got bronchitis and couldn't afford to go to the doctors.

now i'm in a permanent home, i get an extra 200 a month dedicated to yoshi while still being able to go out and have fun and i'm so happy to have my dog with me

she always looks me in the eye and she can read my facial expressions. i can read hers. i know when she's happy or when she's bored or tired. i know when she wants to play. she knows when i'm tired, when i'm being lazy, when i'm trying to work when i need a cuddle i've never been closer to a dog then i am with yoshi, she's not my dog she's my best friend

sry for such a long post ^_^;;

Casey is my heart dog, I know that for sure. I love everything about her, shes an amazing friend who I love with all my heart. So friendly and gentle but at the same time so strong. I would do anything to protect her and she would do anything to protect me. I trust her and understand her, I can read that dog like a book lol. I don't know what I'd do without her, I don't rely on anyone but I rely on her.

I've been thinking about this for a little bit. At first I was going to say that Nikki (may she rest in peace) was my first heart dog. After all, she was the dog who I literally grew up with. When I had problems, we'd go for a nice slow walk, off leash, and I would just think about it and it was as if she heard my thoughts... She was the one who got me completely addicted to walking or hiking off leash, and I think its an important bonding time for any of my dogs. But after thinking about it for quite a bit, there's no doubt that Nikki was "Dad's dog." She was totally devoted to him, and she'd go to him over me without thinking twice. But we also had a special bond, I'm not sure what to call it, but there'll always be a special place in my heart for her

So, then, naturally I think everybody knows the answer to this. Others on Chaz pointed it out to me quite a while ago (i think we had a similar thread??)
Maddie is "my" "first" dog. I've had fosters, and dogs that were 'family' dogs, but there's just something about Maddie... idk... we are totally devoted to each other. She feeds off of my emotions and will come to me and react in an appropriate way --- I don't really know how to explain it. The things that are unsaid; that don't need to be said, with Maddie. Everything that was previously posted seems to apply to Maddie as well. We go everywhere together. She's like my child, my sister, sometimes she tried to act motherly, and most of all she's my best friend...
Because I can't think of any other way to put it, she's my heart dog

Missy's really working on something special, too. Out of all the pound dogs, all the fosters, it was just meant to be. She's like one of my limbs... LOL... my right arm...

I've never been more attached or more devoted to anything as I am with my two grrls, right now. . .
