No pics needed here. Could you give more information on the dog/cat fur trade in BaiJing? That is also something that is very disturbing to me.
BTW, there is something that we can do regarding the dog/cat fur trade. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING with ANY fur AT ALL on it!!! The American government does not require any explaination regarding any fur valued under $150.

These people are truly heartless monsters. I can't even stand to hear my pups cry for a second... I do not know how they do it. I would love to beat them to death, this might sound sick, but after seeing them do that to one of my dogs or any dog for that matter, I would'nt mind hearing their screams.

I was browsing the internet a while ago, and I browsed onto someone's website where they had pics of their trip to Europe and Asia. There was a section of pics taken of a dog being skinned alive, and the description read something like, "this dog moved its head around for a minute after being skinned before it died." there were pics of that too! There were also pics of a piglet being spayed sans anesthesia, with captions talking about how it screamed. I don't know how those people could stand taking those pics. I wouldn't have been able to stomach it. Yeah I looked at it, but seeing pics of it is different to me than actually being there and witnessing it.
For example, I can watch movies where people's heads get chopped off, but I would never be able to look at a headless body in real life!

Warning: Graphic description.

I saw a similar docu of cats. They snagged and hooked them on the street. Tossed them in boiling water live for a few secs, then the skinning, the cat was still trying to breath after skinned, you couldn't even recognize what it was but you saw the mouth moving. I was so horrified I still see the images. They also had a bit on slashing the throats of retriever puppies, in FRONT of the other puppies. The puppies were terrified. These people have no respect for animal life whatsoever. Savages. Makes you want to just up and kill them for their total disregard for the feelings and pain of living things. They also had a segment, I think it was Japan actually, where they had cats crammed in wire cages behind a restaurant and you could PICK your dinner. They were terrified and squealing and pawing for some hugs like you see them do at shelters, and they were about to be dinner. Dogs of course, are on the menu in several of these countries.

When I was at GE we had a technical exchange with Taiwan and they would come here to apartments we retained for them. Several neighborhood pet dogs that were loose disappeared the first time they came here. I am not kidding here.

I know it's a cultural thing and if that's the culture there, that's for them to decide and I will never live among or respect people who think like this, but there is no reason why they should even imagine we would stand for them doing the the same here.

Rather than going off-topic or ranting, I thought it would be interesting to research this a little bit, I've been to China several times and have friends and colleagues there. The following is compiled from various English language websites - news, blogs etc, likely incomplete and somewhat inaccurate, but gives an idea....

Apparently there are 1m dogs in Beijing, which has an active pet care industry - its said half are unregistered

There's concern over lack of vaccination, especially rabies (only something like 3% of China's dogs are rabies-vaccinated apparently, and rabies deaths are in the '000s, recently rising by 29%)

In Beijing there have been 'dog rules' since 2003 - but losely enforced, now being stricly enforced in preparation for the Olympics

Apparently the crackdown started with a publicity campaign (in newspapers) with 10 day 'warning time' - enforcement of 1 dog per home and height limit rule

Some "non-compilant" dogs have been spirited away by their owners already, to friends/family or kennels out of the city, but people are still keeping 'illegal/fugitive' dogs, risking walking them at night etc and a "round-up" is underway...

There are rewards for 'turning people in'

Terrible - having your dog confiscated (and worse...the OP indicating this means death) - but breaking the rules (whatever you think of them) in a place like China is something to consider carefully.... if I were somehow in Beijing with a "non-compliant" dog it would have been out of the city in good time rather than risking being confiscated... if keeping big dogs became practice for large numbers of people its a shame pressure wasn't brought to bear to have the rules amended...

Let's hope this gets widely exposed - and stopped - if what the OP indicates is true...

The shameful Shanghai Animal Olympics apparently ended early due to embarassment

This was discussed in my hometown newspaper recently- it is really happening at least if you trust photographs from the Associated Press. Unfortunately there is very little that can be done with China's government- but the US does have some influence with China. Write to your Senator and ask him or her to introduce a resolution condemning killings of dogs in preparation for the Olympic Games, and write to your favorite athletes that are being considered for the games and ask them to declare that they will boycott the Games if the killings continue. Money talks even to a foreign country, and low attendance, no athletes, and no international support would make for a very poor Olympic Games. Also let any friends who might be wealthy enough to attend the Games in China know that you support a boycott.
