Default Pembroke welsh corgi questions...

Sadly, my brittany spaniel died while he was getting his teeth cleaned (he was sedated) and his heart stopped...he was 11 and was sooo hyper and showed no sign of aging...and it was a huge shock...

So yeah, we're considering what type of dog to get next (wont be for a couple months though) and i really wanted a pembroke welsh corgi....but....my parents are kinda wierd with little dogs (they don't like yippy dogs for one) so i have some questions about the pembrokes.

1. Do they bark? Is it alot? random times? if the doorbell rings? I'd like to know how much they bark, and when.
2. Can you train them not to bark (or at least to stop on command)?
3. Can they stay outside for a few hours without supervision (we have a good sized yard with a fence, but there is a small pond...)
4. How often/much do they shed?
5. Do they stink (assuming you give them a bath every month or two.)?
6. Do they need a big amount of attention (every tues/thurs no one is home for about 7 hours and this summer maybe every weekday for 2 hours? this is important, as the dog will be a puppy)?

That's all i can think of. How good of family dogs are they by the way? can anyone compare them to a brittany spaniel in anyway possible?
If i find more questions, I'll ask.

thanks

-SOme bark a lot and others bark just a little. It isn't really a yap though. They are herding dogs that,as far as I've been told use the bark to help so they have no problem barking a lot. I know a couple that bark everytime something moves. Mine barks when she sees something in the yard or the other dogs are getting to much attention.

Probally not very easy but anything is possible.

I don't think it is ever a good idea not just with the corgi. They probally would develop even worse barking habbits then and your neighbors would not be happy. They are short enough to get out of some spots that bigger dogs couldnt.

4. How often/much do they shed?
More than my husky! If you are worried about shedding then definately stay away.
5. Do they stink (assuming you give them a bath every month or two.)?
Mine has less oder than the beagle but more than the husky. I guess its moderate. I give her a bath about once a month.

They are a breed that needs to feel the yhave a job(how it is with a lot of herding dogs). If you walked it for a couple hours,or jogged or joined an agility thing you may be ok though.

I have a post somewhere on here with a bunch of pics You'll find it if you dig around. Here is my gizzys dogster page http://www.dogster.com/?23126

Maybe a rescue would be good for you because then you can know how much the dog barks and you won't hav eto go through housetraining with no one able to take the time. ANd there are a lot of rescue corgis around!

ANd I am so sorry about your dog I've heard about that happening to a couple dogs lately.
