Default Had the Best dog, and then lost her... (pictures of my best girl)

I just recently had to put my Golden Retriever, Sugar down, she was the best darn dog I had, we got her for free, and the people said that she was healthy, and 1 year old, well, guess what? She was more like 10 years, and not healthy, free dogs don't come in good shape. Its too good to be true, I despise these people for not even brushing her! I had to shave her, and cut all of the mats off of her! I can show you, how darn sick she looked, she looks sick in this picture, but as sweet as ever! This girl, was the second best thing that had ever happned to me! (it was like saving a life) These people didn't pay attention to her, and didn't have her on heartguard, at the most! Jeez, these people should be charged for animal abuse, they have another Golden Retriever with them. Probably going to have the worst life ever, poor dog.. :'( This girl, loved me, as I loved her. She got put to sleep because of Kidney failure, it was like knives being put in my heart, when I heard we had to put her down, I can't go to where we chained her up at, it still is knives being put in my heart, to know that she had the worst life ever. I wanted to know her better, I feel bad, that I was always too busy, not getting to know her better. That sticks more knives in my heart. Here is how bad she looked, (pictures in a moment-1) This was last year after Christmas, when I got my camera, we only had her for a little less than a year. Here is a picture of my best girl. Click to view Sugar>
NO STEALING IT! (eats caps) This is what she looked like before I shaved her.. Well, thats it, thank you for reading!

Default RE: Had the best dog then lost her

I am so sorry for your loss. Your writing is heart felt and you really sound as if you truly loved this dog, until I got to the part where you said "you couldn't go by where you chained her". I feel I must tell you that chaining up a dog is a form of animal abuse. Obviously by the previous owners she was much better off with you, but I only say this to hopefully "Open Your Eyes", as you might not be aware of this. (see any PETA website, catalog, etc.) I have a yellow lab and he is treated like one of the children, he has the run of the house, and sleeps in a warm and cozy home. The only time he is on a leash is to walk him and it is a body harness so not to choke him. Your dog was absolutely a beautiful girl. Again, I am not in anyway trying to be nasty, I just needed to let you know this.

Yeah me too - gotta say that totally confused me. However, she goes onto say that she felt bad about not having the time to get to know this dog better, so maybe she doesn't chain her dogs anymore.

Schwarzenegger has passed a Bill now to make it illegal to chain dogs for more than three continuous hours within any 24-hour period. What a victory for all the dog lovers out there!! And best of all, what a victory for all the tethered, chained, desperate dogs out there. WOO HOO!!

Sorry to hear about your loss. It is hard to get a dog and have to lose it that quickly.

There is one thing that concerns me. You stated that the people told you the dog was 1 yrs old. How could they state that when there is such a discrepancy in age. When I look at a 1 yr old dog is shows its age. Goofy bouncy and gangly.

. When I look at a ten yr old dog it shows the signs of age. Graying facial hairs. Full of arthritis and more. I realise that you wanted a dog and thats fair. it just seems so strange that the age area could have been missed.

As far as chains. I really think that they are cruel. If we have to tie any of our dogs they are tied for 10 min's and 10 min's only. They are on a 50 ft line so they have the freedom of movement they require. I sincerly beleive that chains cause a load of issues in dogs and can make them very aggressive when left on them too long.

I realise and understand your pain you wanted a best freind for ever well longer than the dog that just died. But remember you get what you pay for. Had you invested a little more time into purchasing the dog rather than wanting the dog for free you would have prevented the inevitable. I guess we all have to learn the hard way. I am sorry that you had to go through what you did and good luck when you locate the next doggie

Sorry to hear about your dog , I do know how you feel. We lost our 11 1/2 year old poodle a year ago november and it was the hardest thing that ever happened to us. We all cried so hard and so long that people thought we were sooooo strange. But as Mickeysmom said, to us our animals are literally one of the children. The love we have for them is unexplainable. But, please do listen to all who said it seems like a contradiction to love an animal so very much and then to chain them up outside. My dogs feet hardly ever touch the ground. Feel better and the best way to get over that loss is to fill your heart with another little furry loved one.

I know I hate chains, but, the kennel isn't fixed. or wasn't fixed. My grandma did have the money to get it fixed, but my step-dad was too lazy to. He said... "when I have time" He had plenty. we are waiting a little longer for the next one. and are going to purchase it. And I wish we don't have Hershey on a chain. He is not aggressive, because I let him off of it an hour a day. which is very little. I wish he could be off of it, 24/7. but we don't have the fence. I hate chains. I wish I could just burn the ones we have. I want to burn most chains, because I too, think it is cruel. I know, I put her on a chain.. But, as I am a minor, I have no control. We do have a kennel though. But, as I said, my step-dad is too lazy to fix it. I am about to just do it myself. This dog, I truly did love. My grandma wanted a watchdog, and Sugar, was a great one, but, as she was hurting her, we took her. but I don't like chains, believe it or not. R.I.P. Sugar.

Goldens are one of the best dogs i think. I have always had a a golden. Chelsa was the best dog we ever owned. My parents got her for me when i was 5 for xmas. She was very smart and loved everyone. Protected when she needed too. She was almost 10 when we put her down. She was having trouble getting up in the morning so we brought her to the vet. She had these lumps on her her shoulders that the vet said was fat deposits from her being old. He ran all the cancers test ect. Told us she was just old and gave us some meds, and after a few weeks she got better and back to her old ways. Well about 6 months later it was thundering outside (she hated the thunder), and she didn't come to the door. My dad and brother found her under the deck and she could not get up, and they carried her inside. Well after about 2 days of this the vet came out and we decided to put her down. My mom and I asked him again what the lumps were, and he said it was cancer and by now it had most likely spread throughout her body and he told us that 6 months ago. He lied to us, and soon after sold his profession. I think my dad would have knocked him out if he would have been home. It was the first time i had ever seen my dad cry like a child. It was one of the hardest things i have ever done in my life to say goodbye to her, but i know she was smileing all the way to the end
