Default "10 years difference", tribute to a very special friend

To the best friend who I will never forget,

I do remember the first time I saw you. You were so tiny rolling over cutely in your cage in the pet store, as if saying ďpick me, pick meĒ.

Mum decided to take you home with us. The guy let you out of the cage. You were shy at the beginning, but then gave lots and lots of kisses.

In your first days with us, everyone loved you from the start. They gave you all their attention and played with you all day long. However, I didnít love you as much as they did.

I didnít know anything about dogs at that time. I was only 10, and you were our first dog.

You didnít care; you showed me the love that a dog can give to humans.

A week later, everything changed.

Day after day my love towards you started to increase.

Whenever I came back from school, I was getting the wildest greetings from you.

You were making me laugh all the time. I did enjoy playing with you all sort of games.

I also do remember you joining me to my friendsí houses. They loved you and you were just too adorable.

To me, you were the smartest puppy in the whole world. I taught you many tricks and you were learning them really fast.

If there was anything that bothered me, I used to seek for comfort from you. You were always next to me. looking at me with those brown, sweet eyes whenever I talked and told you about what was bothering me. You were all ears to me. You were good at cheering me up afterwards by licking my face, as if telling me ďdonít worry, I am with you and I love you very muchĒ. Whenever you saw the smile on my face, you used to start wagging your tail and picking any toy you could find and running away with it, wanting me to chase you all over.

You didnít like to see me upset or even to see me hurt after falling off my bike or anything else.

I remember you being my shadow; following me anywhere I went. It was easy for anyone to find me by just calling your name. I enjoyed your company. We became best friends.

I relished that I was the luckiest kid to have a friend like you.

My first teen years were not so easy, but you being with me made a big difference.

You made my life much easier. you loved me enormously and I loved you back.

In my birthdays, I always used to tell you ď10 years difference, lil fellaĒ and gave you big hugs and cuddles, then playing the chasing game with you. You used to love it although some people thought that it was silly, but we didnít care as long as we were having lots of fun. It was just a thing that I made it up for us in my 11th birthday, and made me say it year after year whenever I blew out my candles.

This will be my first birthday without you, my little friend. I will be blowing out my candles without seeing your sweet eyes, and watching you run like a cheeta all over the place.

I just wish that I can hug you one last time, tell you that I miss you so badly , how special you were and still is to me, and thank you for giving me the best years in my life; teaching me many things about dogs, and the most important thing, loving me until our last minute together.

Wow...I'm soo sorry. Rest in Peace Sweet Melon....I know just how you feel. I was 9 when I got my Princess, and she just passed away this year....she was my baby, and it's so hard. I always was sad when I saw dogs die on TV or heard of a dog passing away, but when it actually happend to me....I knew the true meaning of sadness. I know how you feel.
Don't fear tomorrow.
